The Presidency of the Arab Republic of Egypt welcomes the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, and the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian. Egypt underscores the great significance of this step to reduce tension, averting the region future escalation and restoring security and stability to the Middle East.
The Presidency expresses its deep appreciation for the leadership and wisdom of US President Trump, his commitment to achieving peace and resolving disputes through peaceful means, and well as his sincere efforts to reach a consensus text for the Memorandum of Understanding. Egypt also appreciates Iran’s positive engagement through the signing of the MoU. Furthermore, Egypt values the full coordination carried out with regional partners to achieve this satisfactory outcome and values the tireless efforts exerted by Pakistan, Qatar, and other members of the Quartet, namely Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, in reaching the aforementioned Memorandum of Understanding.
Egypt looks forward to this step serving as a major turning point toward a new phase of de-escalation, confidence-building, and joint cooperation. It also hopes that the memorandum will be fully implemented, both in letter and spirit, paving the way for a final and sustainable agreement that addresses the concerns of all parties and supports efforts aimed at achieving lasting security and stability in the region.
Egypt further hopes that this recent development, related to stopping the war with Iran, will help create a conducive environment for addressing various regional conflicts, mainly the Palestinian issue, which remains the core conflict in the Middle East. Egypt believes that resolving the issue both decisively and permanently constitutes one of the fundamental pillars for achieving just and comprehensive peace in the region. Egypt reiterates its appreciation for President Trump’s diligent and valued efforts to secure a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Egypt also hopes that the recently concluded Memorandum of Understanding will lead to a complete cessation of Israeli attacks against Lebanon, Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanese territories, and respect for its unity and territorial integrity.
Egypt looks forward to the success of the forthcoming technical talks between the United States and Iran. This shall enhance the prospects for more comprehensive and sustainable understandings that contribute to consolidating regional stability and reducing tension. Egypt affirms its full readiness to contribute to supporting the success of these discussions. Egypt also renews its commitment to supporting endeavors aimed at promoting regional security and stability and resolving disputes through peaceful means, in accordance with the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.
