Joint Statement on the Launch of a Strategic Partnership between Egypt and Brazil

His Excellency the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and His Excellency the President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

In light of the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Brazil, which are characterized by the promotion of diversity and the deepening of bilateral relations, as well as the bonds of friendship between the two peoples; considering that both countries are members of the BRICS group, which is grounded in a spirit of respect, solidarity, and mutual understanding among its members; reaffirming the desire of both countries to work together to consolidate peace, promote a more representative and just international order, renew and reform the multilateral system, and achieve sustainable development and inclusive growth; emphasizing the priority that both countries attach to combating hunger, poverty, and inequality, both at the national and international levels; emphasizing the commitment of both countries to strengthening the paths of regional integration that they share, and promoting trade and cooperation among the countries of the Global South..

And while expressing commitment to enhancing and expanding bilateral relations and cooperation in all areas of mutual interest; referring to the Memorandum of Understanding between Egypt and Brazil on the establishment of a mechanism for strategic dialogue, signed on December 27, 2009, and the Memorandum of Understanding on the launch of political consultations between Egypt and Brazil, signed on December 9, 2003, as well as the Agreement on the establishment of a joint Egyptian-Brazilian coordination committee, signed on March 7, 1985;

The Arab Republic of Egypt and the Federative Republic of Brazil have decided to launch a Strategic Partnership between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Federative Republic of Brazil, based on the following considerations:

1-Adherence to the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter and other universally accepted norms of international law.

2-Strengthening dialogue and understanding through intensifying diplomatic relations, bilateral meetings, and exchanges of visits between high-level officials from both countries and other national sectors.

3-Focusing on the social and economic development needs of both countries and striving to achieve mutual benefit.

4-Enhancing consultations and coordination on issues on the bilateral agenda, as well as on regional and multilateral issues of common interest, based on the shared foreign policy objectives of both countries.

5- Advocating for the strengthening of multilateralism and the reform of international institutions, particularly the global financial architecture and the United Nations, especially its Security Council, to make them more representative, legitimate, and effective, as well as ensuring that they reflect the international realities of the 21st century.

6- Intensifying cooperation in the political and diplomatic fields, as well as in the areas of peace, security, defense, economy, trade, investment, environment, agriculture, science, education, development cooperation, culture, sports, tourism, and other areas to be determined later.

7- Developing a work plan, through diplomatic channels, outlining the initiatives necessary to implement the strategic partnership. The work plan may be updated regularly to reflect the dynamics of bilateral relations.
