President El-Sisi Meets Incoming Secretary-General of the League of Arab States

Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received the incoming Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Nabil Fahmy.

The Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, stated that the President affirmed Egypt's full support for Mr. Fahmy's nomination for this post. The President emphasized the unprecedented challenges facing the region at present, which necessitate strengthening joint Arab action and activating the role of the League of Arab States as the primary umbrella and comprehensive framework for defending the interests of Arab states and peoples.

Mr. Fahmy expressed his deep appreciation for the President’s support, noting that he looks forward to developing the performance of the League of Arab States and formulating an advanced and effective strategic vision that is commensurate with the magnitude of the challenges facing Arab national security. He also emphasized his conviction in the importance of strengthening the role of the League in the economic and social fields so as to achieve its intended role.

The President reiterated Egypt’s vision that is keen to undertake constructive roles that promote peaceful solutions to the region’s crises, noting the increasing hotspots of conflict and the escalation of violations of international law. This imposes serious consequences on Arab national security in its comprehensive sense, and increases the responsibilities of the League of Arab States, especially with regard to the need to develop its tools to address regional transformations and formulate more effective and comprehensive collective Arab positions.
