Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Governor of Port Said Moheb Habashi, President’s Adviser for Urban Planning Major General Amir Sayed Ahmed, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Osama Rabie, Head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority Major General Ahmed Al-Azazy, Head of the Research Center at the Suez Canal Authority Dr. Ahmed Hassan, and Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Alexandria University, Dr. Hassan Abu Seada.
The Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El Shennawy, said the President was briefed on efforts to advance development in the Suez Canal Corridor, particularly in Port Said Governorate, as well as the progress of the implementation of relevant investment and service projects , whether projects underway or those planned for. This is within the framework of cooperation and partnership between the Suez Canal Authority and all relevant entities and institutions, with the participation of the private sector. This shall enhance the investment climate, enable the effective participation of the private sector in development efforts, and achieve sought outcomes to improve citizens’ living standards.
The President also followed up on efforts to facilitate transit and connectivity between the two banks of the Canal to serve the developmental and strategic objectives of the canal cities. The meeting also tackled ways to increase the capacity of maritime and navigational services by introducing new services.
President El-Sisi gave directives to expedite the implementation of targeted projects in the Suez Canal, with particular focus on logistical zones, which have great significance.
The President emphasized that the development of the Suez Canal area and the establishment of related projects come within the state’s efforts and keenness to enhance citizens' living standards. This is in addition to enhancing the Suez Canal's strategic importance in combating regional challenges that have adversely impacted international commercial navigation. This led to a loss of more than 60% of the Suez Canal’s revenues in 2024, which means that Egypt lost approximately $7 billion in the same year.
President El- Sisi stressed the need to maximize the economic returns from ports overseeing the Canal's navigation route, leverage the Canal’s strategic location to boost investments and national income, and advance the canal area for development and to be an industrial and logistical regional hub. The President highlighted the necessity of continuing to promote the participation of the private sector in relevant investment projects, being a cornerstone for achieving targeted development.
