Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from French President Emmanuel Macron.
The Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, said the call underscored the strength of the bilateral relations between Egypt and France and their commitment to building on the momentum generated by President Macron’s recent visit to Cairo, with the aim of enhancing cooperation in various fields, particularly in the economic, trade, and investment sectors.
The call reviewed Egypt’s intensive mediation efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and to facilitate the exchange of hostages and captives. Both sides stressed the importance of ensuring the delivery of adequate and appropriate humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza Strip.
In this context, President Macron expressed his country’s full support for Egypt’s efforts. The two leaders also emphasized the necessity of reaching a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.
President El-Sisi welcomed President Macron’s recent announcement of France’s intention to officially recognize the State of Palestine during the high-level segment of the United Nations General Assembly in New York this September, noting that this decision is part of France’s ongoing efforts to implement the two-state solution, which is the only path to fulfilling the aspirations of both the Palestinian and Israeli peoples to live in peace side by side and to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.
The call also reaffirmed Egypt’s support for the joint French-Saudi initiative aimed at organizing a high-level international conference on the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue, scheduled to be held in New York later this July.
