Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received the President of the Republic of Colombia, Gustavo Petro. The meeting was also attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Dr. Badr Abdel-Atty; Colombian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio; Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia to Egypt, Luz Helena Martínez Kasab; and Advisor to the Colombian President for Middle East Affairs, Mr. Víctor de Currea-Lugo.
The Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said President El-Sisi welcomed the Colombian President on his second visit to Egypt, lauding the profound historical relations between the two countries.
President El-Sisi emphasized Egypt's keenness on strengthening bilateral cooperation in various fields, particularly in the economic and trade sectors, and on further advancing joint coordination within international fora on issues of priority for developing countries, primarily achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and addressing the related developmental challenges.
The meeting also focused on prospects for cooperation in a number of vital sectors, including ways to boost trade, new and renewable energy, aviation, and culture. The two Presidents also reviewed opportunities for exchanging expertise in the field of combating transnational organized crime and terrorism.
President Petro expressed his appreciation for the growing bilateral relations between Egypt and Colombia. He valued the remarkable increase in the volume of trade exchange over the past five years and underscored the importance of building on this surge to enhance inter-trade. President Petro also congratulated President El-Sisi on the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum, lauding this civilizational edifice as a historical achievement. The President of Colombia confirmed that he deeply values the ancient Egyptian civilization.
The two Presidents exchanged views on the latest regional developments. President El-Sisi highlighted the outcomes of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit and progress in the implementation of the agreement on ending the war in the Gaza Strip. President El-Sisi lauded Colombia's initiative to provide humanitarian aid to the Strip.
The Colombian President commended Egypt’s intensive efforts, under the leadership of President El-Sisi, to end the war and contain the humanitarian catastrophe. He stressed the importance of the full implementation of the agreement on ending the war and of accelerating the launch of the reconstruction process. He further affirmed Colombia's readiness to be actively involved in efforts to implement the agreement on ending the war in the Gaza Strip and its interest to continue providing humanitarian aid.
In this context, President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's intention to host the International Conference for the Early Recovery and Reconstruction of the Gaza Strip in November 2025.
The meeting also tackled a number of regional and international crises. The two leaders reiterated the necessity of settling these crises through peaceful means, while respecting the sovereignty of states, their territorial integrity, and preserving the resources of their peoples. They also agreed to continue coordination and forge closer cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
