Today, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from Greek Prime Minister Kiriakos Mitsotakis.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that during the call, they discussed the efforts to combat the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic and to contain its health, economic and social repercussions. They agreed to enhance joint cooperation in this regard through exchanging experiences and coordination between the concerned authorities of the two friendly countries to mutually benefit from the best experiences and practices they make.

Means of enhancing the joint cooperation process that brought together the two countries at various levels, whether at the bilateral level or within the framework of the tripartite cooperation mechanism among Egypt, Cyprus and Greece, were discussed. In this regard, an agreement was reached on resuming the mutual visits at the level of senior officials upon the return of the international air traffic with the aim of continuing the development of distinguished cooperation between the two countries.

During the call, they also agreed on the common interests and positions between the two countries in the Eastern Mediterranean region while stressing that the East Mediterranean Gas Forum represents one of the most important tools in this framework, which would enhance cooperation among the forum countries in the fields of energy and gas and transform the resources in the region into promising investment opportunities for the benefit of future peoples and generations.

The Spokesman added that during the call, the recent developments in the Libyan issue were tackled as it was agreed to refuse the interference of any external parties in the Libyan crisis, which only complicated the issue and served the benefit of those parties at the expense of the rights and interests of Libya and its brotherly people and their free will, thus threatening the security and stability of the entire Libyan regional neighborhood as an extension to Europe. Hence, this necessitates the importance of coordination of the efforts of the international community by supporting the relevant endeavors and implementing the outputs of the Berlin process to settle the issue.
