President El-Sisi Receives Phone Call from President of Cyprus

Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that, during the call, the two presidents discussed some regional issues and means of enhancing joint cooperation that brings the two countries together, whether on the bilateral level or within the framework of the tripartite cooperation mechanism with Greece.

They also discussed means to coordinate and exchange experiences on efforts aimed to combat the spread of the novel coronavirus and to contain its health, economic and social repercussions by examining the best experiences, whether in Egypt, Cyprus, or the European Union. They also reviewed means of strengthening multilateral cooperation in the framework of this important file.

With regard to some regional files of common interest, they exchanged views on energy security within the framework of the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum, where the Cypriot President praised in this context the vital role and political significance of Egypt in maintaining stability in the region. He confirmed in this regard the appreciation of the European Union for Egypt's efforts to achieve stability and combat terrorism, as well as the successful Egyptian experience in the field of combating illegal immigration.

The last developments in the Libyan issue were also discussed. The two presidents agreed to intensify coordination in this regard, especially by supporting the relevant international endeavors and by implementing the outcomes of the Berlin process as well as rejecting any external interference in this regard.
