President El-Sisi and the First Lady Receive their Bulgarian Counterparts

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the First Lady met today President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Roman Radev, and his wife at Ittihadiya. The reception ceremony was held, the two national anthems were played and the guard of honor was reviewed.

Spokesman for the Presidency said that the two presidents held a bilateral meeting followed by an extended session of the two countries delegations. President El-Sisi welcomed the Bulgarian President, praising the historical relations between the two countries and expressing their aspiration to enhance bilateral cooperation. Such cooperation comes in light of the constructive steps taken recently between Egypt and Bulgaria that are embodied in the exchange of high-level visits, the establishment of a joint committee headed by the two foreign ministers to follow up the cooperation process and the formation of the joint Bulgarian-Egyptian Business Council to support economic relations and trade between the two countries.

The Bulgarian President thanked President El-Sisi for his warm welcome and generous hospitality. He expressed his keenness to continue coordination and consultation between the two friendly countries in various fields, as well as the aspiration to develop and strengthen Bulgaria's relations with Egypt. The President, to establish stability and security in the Middle East and North Africa, as well as the development boom achieved by Egypt and the achievements of major national projects in various fields. Business Council, as the two mechanisms are helping to push relations between the two countries.

The talks discussed means of enhancing bilateral relations, especially economic, investment and trade, taking into consideration that Egypt is Bulgaria's largest trading partner in the Middle East and Africa region, as well as cooperation in the field of energy of all kinds. Of energy and Egypt's efforts to become a regional center for energy trading in the Eastern Mediterranean, as well as Bulgaria to become a regional energy hub in the Balkans and Eastern Europe. The two presidents also discussed opportunities for enhancing cooperation in the field of tourism and means of increasing their movement, as well as ways of cooperation in the fields of agriculture, industry, culture, education and military and security cooperation.

During the talks, a number of regional issues were reviewed. The two presidents stressed the importance of unifying the efforts to reach peaceful solutions to these issues, in a way that preserves the national statehood. President El-Sisi reviewed the Egyptian efforts in the field of combating terrorism, pointing out that the international community should address the roots of the scourge of terrorism through a comprehensive approach that includes all dimensions and reasons.

The Spokesman added that both presidents exchanged views on the phenomenon of illegal immigration. The President stressed Egypt's keenness to combat this phenomenon, pointing out the Egyptian efforts exerted to address the issue of refugees’ movement across the Mediterranean and that is based on Egypt's responsibility towards its citizens as well as the security of its partners. They also highlighted the importance of dealing with the file of migration in the framework of the responsibility they share and the burdens they bear, through addressing the roots of the economic and development problem in the countries of origin before focusing only on the security solutions.

The Bulgarian president expressed his appreciation for the Egyptian efforts exerted to combat terrorism and illegal immigration, stressing his keenness to continue cooperation with Egypt at various levels to address the challenges facing the two shores of the Mediterranean. In this context, he lauded Egypt’s effort to boost dialogue between African and Arab countries and European Union countries, pointing out that Bulgaria is keen to support Egypt's position and to present it before the European Union, in light of the direct relationship between security in Europe and the situation of the Middle East and North Africa.

The Bulgarian president invited the president to visit Sofia to discuss means of enhancing relations between the two countries. President El-Sisi thanked the Bulgarian president for the invitation and expressed his keenness to visit the Bulgarian capital in the near future.
