Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, Minister of Justice Counselor Omar Marwan, Head of the National Authority for Social Insurance Major General Gamal Awad and Chief of the committee tasked with preparing draft Personal Status Law Counselor Abdel Rahman Mohammed.
The Spokesman for the Presidency said the meeting reviewed the work of the committee preparing the new draft law.
The President was briefed on the main aspects of the new draft law and gave directives to include the establishment of a fund for family care and an insurance policy to financially support it to cope with expenses and challenges related to personal status issues, while providing financing sources for the fund as well as the support of the state to preserve family bonds and the future of children. The President emphasised that the formulation of the new law be simplified and detailed in order for all segments to be able to understand, especially those who are not involved in legal issues.
The new draft Personal Status Law was presented, which seeks to formulate an integrated and detailed law and to abolish the multiple laws, amounting to 6, within this framework. The Committee held 20 meetings to date and drafted 188 articles. The first draft is being completed, especially with regard to setting procedures and issues of guardianship over money. This draft takes into account the concerns of the Egyptian family by relying on official state statistics, as well as studying cases,in addition to relying on the social, medical and psychological sciences in all related issues, such as problems of seeing children and housing.
The draft law also includes granting new powers to the judge to address urgent cases in order to support the family, in addition to developing a new system that collects the disputes of each family before one court, introducing procedures to reduce divorce, preserving the financial responsibility of spouses and sharing wealth accumulated during the marriage. This also in addition to the reformulation of marriage and divorce documents to ensure that they include what the parties agreed upon in cases of marriage and divorce and documenting divorce as is the case of marriage, and not arranging any obligations on the wife except from the date of her being informed.
