President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received this evening a phone call from Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that the conversation touched on the premier regional files namely the latest developments in Libya. President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s firm and unwavering position on the crisis in Libya, especially with regard to curbing illegal foreign interference in the Libyan issue. Such interference could further aggravate the security situation in a way that affects the stability of the entire region.
For his part, the Greek Prime Minister praised the sincere and tireless Egyptian efforts aimed at settling the conflict and restoring peace in all Libyan lands. Prime Minister Mitsotakis stressed the importance of the political track as an original solution to the Libyan crisis in line with the relevant UN resolutions and the results of the Berlin Conference. Additionally, any foreign interventions in this regard shall be rejected.
During the call, President El-Sisi and Prime Minister Mitsotakis discussed means of enhancing joint cooperation at various levels, whether at the bilateral level or within the framework of the tripartite cooperation mechanism between Egypt, Cyprus and Greece. They also constructed an alignment of common interests between the two countries in the Eastern Mediterranean region. They further agreed that the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF) represents one of the most important tools in this framework, thus promoting cooperation between the countries of the region in the field of energy and gas.
