President El-Sisi Receives Call from French Counterpart

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from President of France Mr. Emmanuel Macron, this evening.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that, during the call, both presidents discussed several issues of common interest between Egypt and France, exchanged views on the latest developments in the region, and discussed ways to expand existing areas of bilateral cooperation at all levels.

During the call, the common interests and positions between the two countries in the Eastern Mediterranean were emphasized. They also stressed that they reject the escalations affecting the interests of the countries of the region and that achieving security and stability in the region is a priority for which coordination should be made between Egypt and France.

With regard to the Libyan crisis, both leaders stressed their countries’ unwavering position on supporting a political solution to the issue away from foreign interference and armed militias. They also welcomed any positive steps taken within the framework of the constructive international efforts seeking to reach a peaceful settlement in Libya, including Cairo Declaration and Berlin process.

Both leaders also agreed on the importance of intensifying coordination between the two countries to help Lebanon deal with the effects of the Beirut port blast and overcome the economic and political challenges facing it in order to preserve its stability, sovereignty, and unity.

They also agreed that the resumption of negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis should be encouraged so as to reach a just and lasting settlement of the Palestinian cause in accordance with international resolutions.
