President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met today with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Planning and Economic Development Dr. Hala El-Said.
The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that the meeting addressed the general directions of the sustainable development plan for the fiscal year 2021/2022.
The Minister of Planning presented the sustainable development plan that is based on a strict commitment to implementing the President’s initiatives to provide a decent life for the Egyptian citizen and an alignment with the objectives and targets of the national sustainable development agenda “Egypt Vision 2030”. The plan also focuses on increasing public spending on health, education and scientific research and pursuing efforts aimed to contain the COVID-19 pandemic and to address its economic and social repercussions.
Furthermore, the general directions of the plan were demonstrated; they include prioritizing high-productivity sectors, such as manufacturing, communications and information technology, and agriculture, which are conductive to sustainable economic growth.
The plan further underpins continued implementation of presidential initiatives to improve the health and quality of life of citizens and improve the living conditions of families in the countryside. This is in addition to providing the necessary allocations and appropriations to implement Haya Karima (Decent Life) Initiative and achieve its targets, giving priority to localizing projects and allocating the allotments for the governorates most in need through an equitable distribution of investments with the aim of addressing development gaps.
The President was also updated on the most important strategic goals of the sustainable development plan for the FY 2021/2022, which included enhancing the role of public spending in social protection.
The agenda includes implementing Decent Life initiative, developing the Egyptian family that seeks to help control population growth by reducing the fertility rate and undertaking women's health initiatives that cover about 30 million women. Among the goals are steering public investments toward green projects, strengthening the capabilities of state institutions to face the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic via increasing the capacity of health facilities, and expanding efforts to automate services. This is in addition to providing more medical services, including in university hospitals, alongside improving their quality, and expanding the application of the Universal Health Insurance System.
Furthermore, the targets endorsed in the strategy include expanding the availability and improving the quality of educational services by establishing public and private universities in all governorates, linking the technical education system to the labor market and establishing more technological universities.
The President directed that automation and electronic modernization systems for all government services should be applied and mainstreamed, underlining the importance of taking advantage of the current efforts to develop the Egyptian countryside. This is done within the framework of the Decent Life Initiative, especially in vital areas such as medical services, hospitals and health facilities.
The President also directed that the project of the rehabilitation and lining of canals be expanded and additional resources be provided to that end. This is also done within the framework of the Decent Life initiative, given the project’s environmental and economic benefits and its contribution to saving irrigation water and increasing agricultural productivity.
