President El-Sisi Meets Prime Minister, Ministers of Higher Education, Petroleum

Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Eng. Tarek El Molla and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that the meeting reviewed the role of scientific research institutions in using the modern technological applications for the interest of the state’s development projects.

President El-Sisi emphasized the importance of increasing the contributions of the scientific research system to serve the state’s comprehensive development process, while increasing allocations to enhance the state’s sectors and develop practical solutions to various challenges and problems. This is also while taking into account the continuous development of the various research services offered by specialized centers and institutes to accommodate the growing development needs, particularly linking scientific research with efforts to localize the national industry.

The Minister of Higher Education gave an overview of the role of research centers and institutes in the development plans across the country. Eleven research centers are affiliated to the Ministry of Higher Education, in addition to more than 300 research centers and units affiliated to other ministries and bodies, as well as a number of companies and factories.

In this regard, the meeting reviewed the role of the Egyptian Petroleum Research Institute-affiliated to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research-as an example and its cooperation with the Ministry of Petroleum. The Minister of Petroleum noted the outcome of cooperation in terms of providing studies, scientific research, consultations, analysis, technical services as well as training to the petroleum and national industry, for instance cooperation with Zohr Field, various offshore oil platforms, the Holding Company for Chemical Industries, Misr Petroleum Company and other petroleum companies.

Joint efforts by the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Petroleum were also presented within the framework of the role of the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences in employing modern technology to serve the purposes of sustainable development, keep pace with the state's endeavors with regard to the global development in digital transformation and implement projects that have both economic and development returns. This includes monitoring oil pollution, studying groundwater, creating maps for the paths of petroleum products and natural gas lines, preparing environmental and coastal studies for the expansion of oil exploration and determining the most appropriate locations for wind and solar power plants, as well as the integrated management of lakes and preparing studies for the exploration of minerals and land resources.
