President El-Sisi Meets Members of the Congressional Friends of Egypt Caucus

Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with members of the Congressional Friends of Egypt Caucus, from both the Republican and Democratic Parties, at his residence in Washington D.C.

The Spokesman of the Presidency said President El-Sisi underscored the decades-long strategic relations between Egypt and the U.S. The President reiterated Egypt’s commitment to further strengthening all aspects of these relations, within a framework of mutual respect and joint interests, particularly in light of the turbulent regional situation in the Middle East and the escalating challenges it poses. Those include primarily instability and the growing threat of terrorism, which have affected several countries. This is in addition to the negative repercussions on the economy and the energy and food security, which resulted from numerous and successive global crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, which necessitates concerted efforts to address their repercussions.

The members of the Congressional Friends of Egypt Caucus valued the profound cooperation between Egypt and the U.S., stressing the huge importance the U.S. places on its relationship with Egypt. They confirmed that Egypt is considered a cornerstone for security and stability in the Middle East and the Arab world, and is a pivotal partner of the U.S. in the region. The members of the Congressional Friends of Egypt Caucus expressed immense appreciation for Egypt’s successful and vigorous role, under the leadership of President El-Sisi, in combating terrorism and extremist ideology, rectifying the religious discourse, and establishing the noble concepts and values of freedom of belief, tolerance and acceptance of the other. The US Congressmen emphasized to President El-Sisi that the U.S. will not forget Egypt’s credit in opening the door of peace and spreading the culture of co-existence in the Middle East region.

The meeting discussed ways to foster closer bilateral relations in a multitude of fields, and recent developments on the regional and international arenas, particularly the latest in the Palestinian issue. The US Congressmen lauded Egypt’s efforts in support of the peace process.
