President El-Sisi Receives Eritrean Counterpart

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received today President of Eritrea Isaias Afwerki at Al-Ittihadiya Palace, where the official reception ceremony was held, the two national anthems were played, and the guard of honor was reviewed.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that President El-Sisi welcomed President Afwerki in Egypt. His Excellency expressed his appreciation to President Afwerki for the bilateral close historical ties, joint cooperation and common visions. President El-Sisi confirmed Egypt’s keenness to promote relations and deepen strategic cooperation with Eritrea in all fields. Thus, further coordination and cooperation regarding regional security issues and complementary work would be achieved so as to establish peace and ensure stability in the region.


Concerning bilateral relations, President El-Sisi stressed the importance of developing bilateral cooperation projects in the coming period. In this regard, he underlined the importance of overcoming all obstacles, especially in the sectors of infrastructure, electricity, health, trade, investment, and agriculture, as well as livestock and fish resources. His Excellency also called for intensifying technical support programs provided to Eritrea and diversifying and strengthening joint cooperation in the military and security fields.


President Afwerki expressed his country's mutual aspiration to develop bilateral relations at all levels, especially as the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region currently witness successive challenges and escalating foreign interference. Thus, bilateral cooperation and coordination should be intensified with Egypt and its leadership for its significant role at the regional level with regard to maintaining peace and security. In this respect, the Eritrean President has praised Egypt’s position aiming at achieving stability in the Horn of Africa, reflecting Egypt’s considerable support for Eritrea recently.


The Spokesman added that both presidents discussed the latest regional developments of issues of mutual interest, especially with regard to the Horn of Africa, the security of the Red Sea region, and the Renaissance Dam. They agreed to enhance coordination and joint consultation to follow up on these developments in order to strengthen regional security and stability.
