President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received today Chairperson of the African Union Mr. Moussa Faki, in the presence of the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Sameh Shoukry.
The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that, during the meeting, views were exchanged and the President’s vision was also expressed on a number of African issues, in light of the ongoing preparations for holding the next annual African summit.
The President made it clear to Mr. Faki that the path of development in Africa begins first and foremost with establishing stability and laying an integrated infrastructure that forms a basis for development for African countries, which would help connect between the geographical regions of the African continent. As a result, the desired goal of achieving Africa’s economic and regional integration was reinforced. President El-Sisi affirmed that Egypt had not and would spare no effort to support its African brothers, and that Egypt would always extend its hand to encourage cooperation, construction and development for the sake of all African countries, thus becoming more strengthened by the free will of its peoples, their security and stability.
For his part, the Chairperson of the AU Commission affirmed that the efforts of the African Union are based primarily on Egypt’s role under the leadership of President El-Sisi and its political leverage in Africa, which represents the strong pillar of the joint African action. Mr. Faki expressed his confidence that Egypt would continue to play its role in promoting development efforts and maintaining security and political stability in Africa, particularly in light of the insightful political and development vision of the President. As a result, this helped make Egypt the inspiring success story it is today.
The Spokesman added that the meeting discussed the developments in a number of political issues and conflicts in Africa. Efforts to settle them politically, foremost among which are the situation in the Horn of Africa and the Libyan file, were further showcased during the meeting.
The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam issue was also discussed within the framework of the tripartite negotiations under the auspices of the African Union. President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's unwavering position regarding the importance of formulating a binding and comprehensive legal agreement between all concerned parties. This agreement shall address the Egyptian concerns, especially the rules of the filling and operation of the dam, and refuse any action or procedure that shall affect Egypt's Nile water rights.
Mr. Faki expressed his appreciation for Egypt's efforts within the framework of the negotiation path with the aim of reaching a solution to the issue. He stressed the importance of continuing intensive coordination to resolve the current situation and arrive at a just and balanced agreement on this vital issue.
