Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with the heads of delegations participating in the ministerial meeting of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum. The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry and Minister of Petroleum Tarek El Molla.
The Spokesman for the Presidency stated that the President welcomed the participant delegations and expressed his appreciation for their efforts in advancing the activities of the Forum during the past three years. This enhanced the Forum's importance and role in cooperation in the field of energy both regionally and internationally, taking into consideration that the energy sector is currently affected by global conditions. This confirms the insightful strategic vision to establish the Forum from the beginning, to the extent that it has become a model that many countries are seeking to obtain its membership.
The President affirmed the Forum’s ability to play a pivotal role in the next phase to resolve the global energy crisis and help achieve the desired economic development for the region, which will benefit its peoples.This requires intensifying bilateral and regional cooperation between member states to make the best use of their potential resources by enhancing explorations and increasing the production capacity.
The Spokesman added that the heads of delegations affirmed the strategic importance of the Egyptian initiative to establish the East Mediterranean Gas Forum. They also praised Egypt’s effective efforts under the leadership of President El-Sisi to establish an organized regional dialogue on natural gas that supports the efforts of the Eastern Mediterranean countries to formulate policies that focus on cooperation in the field of energy as a means of rapprochement between peoples and aim at developing a common vision for the future of the Eastern Mediterranean reserves, opening new horizons of common economic interests among the region's countries.
An open dialogue took place during the meeting, in which the President stressed his close follow-up on the outcomes of the meeting and what will be agreed upon. The President also stressed Egypt's full support for the Forum and its objectives, in a manner that serves all the countries of the region and their development interests and helps provide a sustainable energy source for the benefit of peoples and future generations, thus reinforcing a culture of cooperation, construction and peace in the region.
