President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received the United States Secretary of the Treasury Steven Terner Mnuchin, in the presence of Minister of Finance Dr. Mohamed Maait and the Head of the General Intelligence Service.
The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that President El-Sisi asked Mr. Mnuchin to convey his greetings to U.S. President Donald Trump. President El-Sisi praised Mr. Trump’s role in strengthening bilateral relations between Egypt and the United States in all fields over the past years. His Excellency also affirmed Egypt's keenness to promote bilateral cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the extended strategic partnership between the two countries which has a vital role in achieving stability in the Middle East region.
Mr. Mnuchin conveyed the American President’s greetings to President El-Sisi. He stressed his country's appreciation for its strategic relations with Egypt, in light of Egypt’s political weight in its region which contributes to achieving balance in the region. In this regard, Mr. Mnuchin praised Egypt's rational positions under the leadership of President El-Sisi and in light of his role in advancing the frameworks of cooperation between the two countries, bilaterally and regionally.
The Spokesman added that the meeting discussed a number of regional files, including the developments of the Renaissance Dam file. President El-Sisi expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the United States under the leadership of President Trump in that issue and Mr. Mnuchin’s personal involvement in the successive rounds of intensive trilateral negotiations that took place in Washington at the beginning of last year. In this context, Mr. Mnuchin praised the objectivity and positive spirit that Egypt showed during the sessions of those negotiations.
The two sides also presented the developments in the Palestinian cause and means to revive the peace process. President El-Sisi affirmed Egypt's steadfast position toward this issue and stressed the importance of reaching a just and comprehensive solution that guarantees the rights of the Palestinian people and establishes their independent state in accordance with the international references.
His Excellency expressed Egypt's aspiration to continue cooperation with the United States in this regard, considering that the Palestinian cause is the core of the Middle East issues and that its settlement will change the reality of the entire region to the better by opening new horizons for cooperation at the regional level and undermining terrorism and extremist ideology.
His Excellency affirmed that this appreciation stems from a long experience Egypt had since it has been proactive in pursuing the path of peace in the region for more than four decades. Through this path, Egypt has managed to settle issues politically, achieve stability and focus on construction and development for the benefit of the peoples and future generations.
