Saturday, 16 November 2019 / 02:24 PM

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met on Saturday with a delegation from the Bucharest University of Economic Studies headed by its rector, Dr. Nicolae Istudor. Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, attended the meeting.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency said that the President asked for his greetings to be conveyed to Romania's President Klaus Iohannis and applauded development in relations between the countries that span beyond one century, which culminated with the President's recent visit to Romania last June. The President expressed gratitude for receiving an honorary doctorate from the Bucharest University of Economic Studies during that visit.

The President confirmed the importance of continuing close coordination between the two countries after the end of the Romania's Presidency of the Council of the European Union Council, its continuation in the EU Troika and Egypt's chairmanship of the African Union to enhance relations in all fields.

The delegation members confirmed that conferring an honorary doctorate degree on the President was due to his role in leading Egypt during a difficult period and crossing it to a new phase of development by adopting profound structural reforms launched at the national level in the economic and social fields. This is in addition to launching major national projects in various sectors that have significantly contributed to improving the services provided to the Egyptian citizens, redrawing the development map of Egypt and opening new horizons.

The delegation members also noted the President's significant role in enhancing relations between Egypt and Romania, particularly at the academic and cultural levels. They applauded the President's interest and efforts in comprehensively developing the Egyptian education system, raising the level of higher education through a series of fundamental reform projects, establishing technological and technical universities and developing the curricula to match the latest international standards in partnership with international expertise in this field. This was demonstrated by the establishment of new university edifices in Egypt, especially the Technology University in New Cairo, which the Romanian delegation visited. This is the first academic year for the university and it applies the latest standards in academic and scientific systems.

The Spokesman added that the meeting also touched on ways to enhance cooperation in the fields of education and culture between Egypt and Romania, especially through the exchange of scientific researches and scholarships. This is in addition to twinning agreements to facilitate academic cooperation between the University of Bucharest and a number of Egyptian universities in similar disciplines.
