President El-Sisi Meets with Cypriot President

The President began his visit in Cyprus by meeting with President of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades. The Cypriot President welcomed President El-Sisi’s visit in Cyprus. He also praised the special and robust historical ties the two countries are constantly cultivating in various fields. In this regard, Mr. Anastasiades affirmed Cyprus’s aspiration to make further tangible steps with the aim of consolidating bilateral cooperation and friendship. He also expressed keenness to further enhance the mechanism of tripartite cooperation with Greece, especially in light of the role Egypt plays as a strong pillar of stability in the Middle East and its efforts in combating terrorism and illegal immigration.

From his part, President El-Sisi praised the continuous development in the Egyptian-Cypriot relations and the steady progress of the bilateral cooperation between the two countries. His Excellency also commended the Cypriot positions in support of Egypt in regional and international forums and organizations and affirmed Egypt's keenness to expand cooperation frameworks and intensify consultations on issues and files of common interest either at the bilateral level or through the trilateral cooperation mechanism that brings together Egypt, Cyprus and Greece.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that both leaders discussed means to strengthen the strong historical relations between the two countries and the existing cooperation between them at various levels, especially in the fields of energy.

The two presidents also stressed the importance of proceeding with the implementation of joint projects that were agreed upon within the framework of the tripartite cooperation mechanism, in a way that contributes to making this mechanism serve as a model for coordination and consultation between the Mediterranean countries and reflects the specificity of the Egyptian-Cypriot relations.

The meeting also discussed the latest developments at the regional level and efforts to settle the crises afflicting some countries in the region. They affirmed that they would provide support for the national institutions in these countries to contribute to reaching a political settlement, restoring security and stability to the peoples of the region, and preserving their territorial integrity.
