President El-Sisi Directs Government to Provide Basic Food Commodities in Appropriate Quantities

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met today with Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Dr. Ali El-Meselhy, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Mr. Al-Sayed El-Quseir, and Director General of the National Service Projects Organization (NSPO) Major General Walid Abu Al-Majd.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that the meeting discussed aspects regarding the strategic stock of basic commodities and the government's efforts to provide them to citizens across Egypt.

As per the President’s directives, further efforts should be made to provide basic food commodities and increase the strategic reserve to meet the needs of citizens. To that end, it was stressed that citizens should be provided with basic food commodities in appropriate quantities and at affordable prices, available at local outlets across Egypt.

The officials also presented plans to develop some food companies, especially “Kaha” and “Edfina”, to restore their former glory.

Hence, national products in the local market would be promoted and companies’ competitive capabilities enhanced, and exports increased.

The executive steps of the national program for the production of high-quality seeds in terms of quantity, outstanding quality and disease resistance were presented. The program is carried out in partnership with the advanced foreign expertise in this field with the aim of developing the best local crop varieties; the President directed that efforts be strengthened to produce these seeds in Egypt with a view to improving the quality of agricultural production and reducing import bill.

These efforts are made in support of the State’s plan to promote technological progress in the local agricultural production sector to provide the best agricultural products to citizens in accordance with the highest health and food standards and specifications.

A cooperation and partnership scheme developed with a number of countries with experience in palm oil production was also presented in order to establish a logistics zone in Egypt for the refining and production of this distinctive quality of oils. These processes are carried out to benefit local consumption as well as to increase opportunity for exporting abroad.
