President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received today the Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan armed forces, Marshal Khalifa Haftar, in the presence of the Director of the General Intelligence Service.
The Spokesman of the Egyptian Presidency said that Marshal Khalifa Haftar informed President El-Sisi about the situation in Libya. President El-Sisi stressed Egypt’s support for efforts exerted to counter terrorism, extremist groups and militias to achieve security and stability in Libya. He also highlighted the role of the Libyan military foundation to restore legitimacy, create the proper climate for arriving at political solutions and implement constitutional benefits in a way that meets the aspirations of the brotherly Libyan people towards having a safe and decent life and a better future. The President also stressed the role of the military institution in the elimination of all forms of terrorism, militias and extremist groups.
The Spokesman added that Khalifa Haftar commended Egypt’s role in supporting the Libyan people at all levels, stressing the power of the historical relations between the two countries and the two brotherly peoples. He praised the efforts Egypt exerts to fight terrorism, support peaceful solutions to Arab crises, consolidate national state institutions and support the stability and security of Arab peoples. He also reviewed the Libyan efforts to address external interventions in Libyan internal affairs, which aim to smuggle weapons, fighters and foreign terrorists into Libya.
