Developing and Reclaiming 1.5 Million Feddans in Farafra

Continuing the state’s efforts in strategic planning for mega development and service projects on the land of Egypt, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, witnessed the ceremony marking the launching of the implementation of the national project of reclaiming and cultivating 1.5 million feddans starting from the Farafra region. He also inspected the first reclaimed and planted farm on an area of ten thousand feddans by the Armed Forces Engineering Authority and the establishment of two agricultural villages and an integrated service village representing the nucleus of the new Egyptian countryside. The project represents a major addition since it would help achieving comprehensive development plans and providing job opportunities for millions of young Egyptian people.
The Head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority said that the first phase that has been completed includes the agricultural lands area with an area of 10 thousand feddans, 7500 feddans of which are irrigated by pivot irrigation system and 2500 drip irrigation system. He added that 40 water wells with a depth of 800 meters were drilled, 15 oxidation basins were established each with a capacity of 22 thousand m3 to treat the water extracted from the wells and remove the minerals from them at a rate of a basin per 500 feddans and 15 pumping rooms were built to draw water from the oxidation tanks and pump it into irrigation networks.
President El-Sisi listened to a presentation by Prime Minister Eng. Sherif Ismail, in which he reviewed the features of the ambitious national project that the government is implementing across Egypt to provide a decent life for the Egyptian people and reduce the burden on the citizens.
President El-Sisi watched a documentary film titled "A Day in the Life of a Farmer in the New Egyptian Countryside". It covered the planning and organization of work in the new Egyptian countryside, which takes into account the establishment of new agricultural and industrial societies based on studied scientific principles that would be suitable for all groups of society and provide millions of job opportunities and a new life for Egypt's youth.
He also inspected the models of the housing units in the project that are built in a rural style. His Excellency also had a conversation with one of the farmers inside his residential unit, where he sat and inspected the unit and expressed that he liked the design of the units and their establishment. However, the President ordered to modify the design of the units so that the place used to raise the livestock would not be adjacent to the rooms. Major General Kamel El-Wazeer assured him that this is already being modified. He noted that in the rear area of the units poultry will be raised and the other food farmers would need. President El-Sisi jokingly said: "We'll have lunch with you, then".
Accompanied by a number of youth and university students, President El-Sisi planted the first tree in the first phase of the project, marking the launch of the ambitious project that aims to reclaim four million feddans that would be added to the agricultural area in Egypt.
