Today, July 13, 2023, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, received the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed, to resume discussions.
The two leaders reaffirmed their mutual political will to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, politically, economically and culturally, based on the common desire to achieve their common interests and the prosperity of the two brotherly peoples. This would also contribute effectively to achieving stability, peace and security in the region, and making the two countries able to deal with common challenges.
The two leaders discussed ways to overcome the current stalemate in the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam negotiations. In this regard, they agreed on the following points:
1- Initiating urgent negotiations to finalize the agreement between Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan to fill the Renaissance Dam and put the rules for its operation. They agreed to make all necessary efforts to finish it within four months.
2- During the period of these negotiations, Ethiopia made clear its commitment, during the filling of the dam during the hydrological year 2023-2024, not to cause significant harm to Egypt and Sudan in order to provide the water needs of both countries.
