President El-Sisi Follows Upon National Project to Manufacture Electric Cars in Egypt

Today, President El-Sisi held a meeting with Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Assistant to the President for National and Strategic Projects Eng. Sherif Ismail, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Dr. Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Public Business Sector Mr. Hisham Tawfiq, Minister of Trade and Industry Mrs. Nevine Gamea, Minister of State for Military Production Eng. Mohamed Ahmed Morsy, and Chairman of the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) Lt. Gen. Abdel Moneim El-Terras.

As stated by the Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency, the meeting followed up on the national project to manufacture electric cars in Egypt.

Accordingly, President El-Sisi directed that all success factors for the project should be provided, a consistent approach to all projects and initiatives carried out by the country to ensure achieving the set objectives, having access to the largest percentage of local components for manufacturing vehicles, and completing all project’s components, especially electric charging stations for various types of vehicles.

In addition, the President instructed that this national project include partnerships with the private sector electric-car manufacturers experienced in this industry to keep up with future technological advancements in this field on a global level.

The Spokesman made it clear that the meeting addressed various manufacturing and commercial aspects for the automobile manufacturing project in Egypt, including encouraging local manufacturing, attracting foreign investment and choosing models compatible with the needs of the Egyptian market, given that Egypt is an up-and-coming market for public transportation industry in general, within the framework of the country’s plan to expand strategic projects with social, economic and environmental dimensions.
