President El-Sisi Follows Upon Implementation Rates of National Projects in ICT Sector

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Assistant to the President for National and Strategic Projects Eng. Sherif Ismail, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Amr Talaat, and Director of the Signal Department of the Armed Forces Staff Major General Tarek El-Zaher.

According to the Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency, the implementation rates of the national projects conducted in the communications and information technology sector nationwide were discussed during the meeting.

The President directed that the implementation efforts of the “Digital Egypt” Initiative be accelerated and the disciplines targeted by the initiative be expanded to support the government’s performance by providing the latest digital services to citizens nationwide. The government’s strategy aims to double the capabilities of the digital data structure, use artificial intelligence (AI) technology in various state projects, and raise the efficiency and automate the postal system given the significant portion of the public sector dealing with it nationwide.

The Spokesman stated that the Minister of CIT discussed the status of a number of projects carried out under the supervision of the Ministry during the meeting. These projects included preparing an AI strategy in order to raise the performance level of government services and sustaining a cadre of professionals offered digital skills training in the communications and information technology sector.

The efforts to manufacture school computers, issue the electronic smart card for farmers “Farmer's Card” in all governorates, and automate both university hospitals and the university examination system were also presented by the Minister of Communications. This is in addition to the efforts to issue a real estate ID within the framework of the new governance system of the construction sector and to link the prison system with courts.

During the meeting, the President was informed of the efforts made to improve mobile phone services and develop the internet infrastructure in which it would match the heavy use during the current period due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. The developments made to raise the efficiency of post offices across the country and provide these offices with banking services and real estate registration office were also presented to His Excellency along with the developments made to establish the Egyptian University for Information Technology, the first of its kind in the region, and the City of Knowledge in the New Administrative Capital (NAC).

The meeting discussed Digital Egypt creativity centers and the efforts to transform Egypt into a global digital leader for data and a source of attraction for the largest data centers. The efforts made to maintain Egypt’s strategic position as a safe passage for submarine cables were further showcased.
