President El-Sisi Meets with PM and Some Ministers

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met today with Prime Minister, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Amr Talaat, and Head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority Major General Ehab El-Far.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that the meeting touched on the various axes of developing the university education system and the implementation status of the relevant national projects. The development agenda includes the establishment of new private, governmental, international and technological universities nationwide, as well as the digital transformation and application of the electronic testing system in all specializations at all universities. The latest developments on finalizing the current academic year exams process and the ongoing preparations for the new academic year 2020/2021 were also presented.

President El-Sisi gave directives for granting 100 fully-funded university scholarships to the top-ranking Thanaweya Amma (high school) and vocational students in the new private and technological universities for the new academic year. Tahya Misr (Long Live Egypt) Fund will bear the full costs of those grants.

President El-Sisi gave directives for approving several EGP 30-billion-pound projects in the higher education sector, including the establishment of new state-owned private universities via utilizing state lands in new urban communities. Among these universities are the Suez Canal University in East Ismailia and Port Said University in El-Salam City.

In this vein, the President highlighted the importance of developing the university system to make the most of the scientific and academic potentials in the higher-education sector in order to help increase the number of students and graduates of new specializations, particularly in the field of technology and the current labor market-required fields at home and abroad.

President El-Sisi emphasized on the rapid completion of the second phase of new technological universities, including the cities and regions of New Assiut, Tiba, 6th of October, Borg El-Arab, East Port Said and Samannoud, in order to study the specializations in the industrial activities distinguishing those cities and regions.

The Spokesman added that the Minister of Higher Education presented, in this context, the ministry’s efforts in holding negotiations for drawing on and bringing professional expertise from the most prestigious international universities for twinning in Egypt. The agenda for completing the establishment of a number of new private universities in partnership with the best universities worldwide, in El-Galala and Al-Alamein cities, as well as in King Salman University with its three branches in Sharm El-Sheikh, El-Tor and Ras Sidr, was also discussed as scheduled. The work progress at the Egyptian university for information technology and various international universities in the New Administrative Capital was further tackled.

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar also presented the plans of the establishment of several new university hospitals in accordance with the international standards. He also discussed other plans pertinent to developing and raising the efficiency of existing university hospitals to improve services provided to citizens, especially as these hospitals provide health services to people across Egypt.

The information infrastructure project of governmental universities was also presented during the meeting. Additionally, the operation plan of various technological hubs established in six universities across Egypt was presented. In this regard, President El-Sisi gave directives for establishing new technological hubs in Damietta, Tanta, Port Said and Al-Arish universities.

Dr. Amr Talaat also presented the joint efforts between the ministries of communications and information technology and higher education and scientific research in several fields and projects. They included the establishment of a unified educational platform for digital universities, and mainstreaming automated tests in higher education sectors in Egypt as well as the automation of university hospitals and the development of telemedicine.

The Minister of Communications also presented the work progress in "Egypt Innovate" digital centers in several governorates and the executive position of technological hubs nationwide. These hubs, in turn, focus on labor-intensive industries in order to attract more universities so as to promote training and entrepreneurship activities. New Assiut, New Beni Suef, Borg El-Arab and El-Sadat cities set vivid examples in this concern.

The Spokesman added that the Head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority presented the updates of the implementation status and construction work in the new buildings and facilities underway in various universities and institutes across Egypt.
