President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi heads to Paris, France, to participate in an international summit for A New Global Financing Pact, held on the 22-23, June.

The President's participation in the summit is upon the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, in light of the close and growing strategic relations between Egypt and France, and Egypt's active role at the level of emerging economies in general, which contributes to strengthening international initiatives aimed at supporting developing and least developed countries, and facilitating their access to the necessary liquidity to face the economic repercussions of many successive global challenges, especially climate change, the coronavirus pandemic, the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, and the subsequent energy, food and supply chains crises. The summit aims to strengthen international cooperation to formulate the appropriate mechanisms to provide the necessary financing to achieve sustainable development in those countries.

President El-Sisi will focus during the Summit on various issues of concern to developing countries, mainly the importance of strengthening international efforts to facilitate access to the required financial flows, in light of the challenges these countries suffer from, as a result of the mounting global crises, in addition to emphasizing the need to providing them with effective support in their endeavor to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals 2030, including the commitment of developed countries to their pledges within the framework of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, while shedding light on the axes of the Egyptian presidency of the World Climate Summit (COP27)in Sharm El-Sheikh and the main achievements in this regard, as well as reviewing the Egyptian national experience in addressing climate change and expanding the use of renewable energy.

The President is also expected to hold meetings with a number of senior French and international leaders and officials to discuss advancing cooperation frameworks and consult on regional and international issues of common concern.

 

President El-Sisi Meets the CEO of the French Shipping Company, CMA CGM, in Paris

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the world’s leading French Shipping and Logistics Company CMA CGM, Mr. Rodolphe Saadé, and a number of senior company officials, at his residence in the French capital Paris.

The meeting focused on ways to expand and deepen the company's activities in Egypt during the coming period and followed-up on their ongoing cooperation in the fields of navigation, ports and maritime transport in Egypt, particularly with regard to the operation and management of the Tahya Misr Multipurpose Terminal at the Grand Port of Alexandria, which was recently inaugurated in the presence of President El-Sisi. The President underscored Egypt's interest in cooperating with the French company as an added value and a qualitative leap in the upgrading of the Grand Port of Alexandria so as to enhance the port’s activities at the regional and global levels, by applying international standards in port operation and benefiting from foreign expertise in a manner that shall help improve the global classification of Egyptian ports in the areas of logistics and trade.

The CEO of the world's leading shipping and logistics company lauded the business climate in Egypt, which, he said, has been witnessing positive and rapid progress. Mr. Saadé emphasized that the company seeks to expand its cooperation with Egypt in the management of additional ports, including the operation of logistic zones and stations, given the huge scale of development projects which are currently being implemented in Egypt. He confirmed that these projects represent a great opportunity and a promising market for receiving major foreign companies to invest in various fields.

The meeting focused on joint cooperation with the French Alstom Group in the transport sector. The President lauded the constructive cooperation with the French company, which comes within the framework of the outstanding bilateral relations between Egypt and France. President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s commitment to increasing the rates of the localization of the industry and advanced technology in joint activities with the world’s leading companies, while placing interest on establishing centers for training Egyptian experts to benefit from foreign expertise in the transfer of knowledge and building cadres. The President commended Alstom’s efforts in this regard.

Chairman and CEO of Alstom Group, Mr. Poupart-Lafarge confirmed his company’s intention to expand the size and scope of its business in Egypt, notably in light of the promising investment opportunities offered in the Egyptian transport sector, which is considered a gateway to boost its investments in the Arab and African regions. This is in addition to capitalizing on the size of the mega projects which are currently being implemented in Egypt and which are characterized by efficiency and speed.

The meeting reviewed aspects of the ongoing cooperation between the ministry of transport and the French company, notably with regard to the National Authority for Tunnels and the Egyptian National Railways. The discussions also tackled future projects, the details of which are currently being studies by the two sides.

President El-Sisi reiterated interest to further promote and deepen the partnership between the two sides, taking into consideration the fact that they share the Mediterranean regional neighborhood and the importance of joint coordination to address regional and international challenges.

Mr. Michel expressed his appreciation for the engagement with the President and for getting an understanding of Egypt’s position on the issues raised, particularly in light of Egypt’s status as a key strategic partner of the European Union. He confirmed the EU’s interest to foster closer cooperation with Egypt across various levels.

The meeting followed-up on progress in the various aspects of cooperation between the two sides, within the framework of “The EU-Egypt Partnership Priorities Document for 2021-2027”, which represents a vital trajectory for further deepening the Egyptian-European partnership in the coming years in all areas.

The talks also touched on a multitude of issues of mutual interest. French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the Élysée Palace for a Dinner Banquet hosted in honor of heads of state and government and international organizations participating in the Summit for a New Global Financing Pact, held in Paris on the 22nd and 23rd of June, 2023.

 

President El-Sisi Meets France's Minister of the Economy and Finance

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with France's Minister of the Economy and Finance, Bruno Le Maire.

The President looked forward to deepening and further promoting prospects of joint cooperation with France in the economic and development areas, particularly by boosting French investments in Egypt to capitalize on the promising opportunities provided by mega projects.

The French Minister of the Economy and Finance confirmed his country’s commitment to forging closer cooperation with the Government of Egypt across an array of fields, that shall support the development process currently underway in Egypt. He underscored France’s support for French companies’ projects in Egypt, stressing that it will continue to provide the needed financing mechanisms for the two countries’ plans of the financial and technical cooperation programs.

The meeting discussed issues on the agenda of the Paris Summit for a New Global Financing Pact and the urgent need to carry out meaningful reforms in the global financing system, with the aim of creating a fairer system and enhancing the ability of developing countries to address the complex and intertwined set of challenges, particularly with regard to climate change.

 

President El-Sisi Meets President of South Africa in Paris

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in Paris, on the sidelines of the Summit for a New Global Financial Pact.

President El-Sisi affirmed Egypt's keenness to develop its relations with South Africa in various fields, especially in light of the distinguished relations between the two countries. The president stressed the importance of making best use of the two countries’ potentials with the aim of activating bilateral cooperation frameworks in various sectors, especially in terms of trade exchange. This would help achieve common interests and contribute to advancing the development process in the African continent.

President Ramaphosa praised the close relations between the two brotherly countries, noting his country's keenness to activate and develop bilateral cooperation with Egypt. He expressed his appreciation for the active Egyptian role in the African arena and the Egyptian efforts made in this regard which would achieve the aspirations of the peoples of the continent.

The Spokesman added that the meeting discussed various regional files of common concern and ways to enhance efforts to settle existing conflicts and crises in various parts of the African continent, especially the crisis in Sudan. It also discussed prospects for strengthening economic and development cooperation and increasing trade exchange between African countries.

During the meeting, the two presidents discussed the results of the recent visits of a number of African heads of state and government, including Egypt and South Africa, to Russia and Ukraine, within the framework of the African initiative to mediate the Russian-Ukrainian crisis. The two presidents agreed on the importance of making further efforts to contain this crisis and overcome its grave humanitarian and economic repercussions that affected the whole world so as to arrive at a peaceful settlement, in an effort to restore international stability and security.

 

President El-Sisi Meets Kenya’s President Ruto in Paris

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with President of the Republic of Kenya, William Ruto, on the sidelines of the Summit for a New Global Financing Pact, in the French capital, Paris.

The President expressed pleasure at meeting with Kenyan President Ruto, once again, after their recent encounter in Lusaka on the sidelines of the 22nd Summit of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). President El-Sisi underscored appreciation for the close relations, joint cooperation and common vision the two countries share, in addition to Egypt’s commitment to strengthening relations and solidifying the strategic cooperation with Kenya in an array of fields.

Kenya’s President Ruto voiced his country’s profound appreciation for the historical and longstanding relations with Egypt. He confirmed Kenya’s keenness on fostering closer bilateral cooperation and increasing trade between the two countries. The Kenyan President valued Egypt’s pivotal role regionally in maintaining peace, security and stability.

The two Presidents discussed regional developments of mutual concern, particularly the latest in Sudan. They agreed on the need to hold intensive consultations and coordination during the coming period, with the aim of finding a solution to the crisis in Sudan that shall restore calm and achieve a ceasefire, in a manner that would spare the Sudanese people the humanitarian repercussions of the fighting, support the path of peaceful negotiations and push forward the political process.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a cordial meeting with Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in the French capital Paris. The two leaders underscored the robust and solid Egyptian-Saudi relations and valued the cordial and close bonds the two brotherly peoples share. They discussed ways to strengthen mechanisms of joint cooperation and to promote them toward broader horizons. President El-Sisi and HRH Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman also touched on a multitude of Arab, regional and international issues. They agreed on continuing their intensive efforts to reinforce joint Arab action and contribute to settling crises and solidifying stability, security and development in the region, so as to achieve the interests of its peoples and preserve their resources.
