Arrival of the first Air-conditioned Train for Cairo Metro Line 1

The first air-conditioned train has arrived for Cairo Metro Line 1 as part of a contract signed with the French company Alstom. The deal includes the supply of 55 trains (9 cars each), the performance of one major overhaul (including spare parts), the provision of equipment for the Tura Depot, and the execution of maintenance services for a period of eight years.

The project aims to accommodate the increasing number of passengers on Line 1, following the completion of the five-line metro network. It also supports the proposed extension of Line 1 (New El Marg – Shibin Al Qanater), currently under study to meet rising transport demands. Furthermore, it is part of a comprehensive plan to modernize Line 1 by upgrading all systems and rolling stock.

Key features of the new trains include:

Equipped with high-performance AC systems and open gangways (safe passages) allowing passengers to move between cars for added comfort.

Front-mounted cameras for centralized track monitoring, and LCD screens to provide passenger information and display paid commercial advertisements.

Screens located above side doors to inform passengers of the final destination before boarding.

Dedicated spaces for wheelchairs with secure fastening systems to assist people with disabilities.

Internal electronic maps above the doors using illuminated indicators to show the route, assisting passengers with hearing impairments.
