Fish Market in Ismailia

The fish market is established over 7200 square meters. It was implemented according to the the protocol of cooperation between the governorate and the Armed Forces Engineering Authority on El-Sayadeen Lake.

The residents of Ismailia have been demanding for having the fish market in the downtown of Ismailia moved  since the 1980s because of disorganization, the sewage overflowing continuously, garbage and the crowds of vendors in the narrow streets that lack regulation. One of the reasons also is that the fish prices vary between the old fish market and the random market in Abdel Moneim road, especially that vendors in the market are not subject to any supervision and do not abide by the payment of fees owed to the state, which makes them control the movement of sale and purchase.

El-Sayadeen Lake region was chosen to establish a fish market in it. This strategic location directly overlooks El-Temsah Lake. The people of the area are fishers and they work in related activities such as making fishing nets and small boats and preparing fish meals. Also, along this touristic road, there are restaurants, beaches and sporting clubs.
After 25th of January Revolution, this touristic area has been neglected and turned into a chaotic mess where violations and street vendors spread.

Number of campaigns, organized by the Ismailia Security Directorate in coordination with the governorate, were launched to remove these violations.
The new fish market includes 20 wholesale fish shops, 160 booths for fish vendors, 16 two-store cafeterias as well as basic services and facilities. The new market is located directly on the lake.

The market aims to benefit from the touristic nature of the area overlooking El-Sayadeen Lake and El-Temsah Lake and to provide job opportunities for young people in the projects in that area. It also aims to renew and develop the region to become a civilized gateway to Ismailia from the southern direction.

The project is shown in the attached video made by the Armed Forces Morale Affairs Department (8:13 to 8:33).
