Headquarters of East of the Canal Forces for Combating Terrorism

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi inaugurated the headquarters of the East of the Canal Forces to combat terrorism in Sinai. This comes within the framework of a system of comprehensive development and modernization of the organizational and combat capabilities of the armed forces, so that they can carry out various tasks to protect the pillars of Egyptian national security and support the elements of comprehensive development in Sinai Peninsula.
The opening ceremony started with the unveiling the leadership of the wallchart of the east of the canal headquarters. The president listened to the explanation of Major General Hassan Abdel Shafi, director of the Department of Military Engineers on Maquette for the general site for the headquarters of the East of the Canal Forces, its combat units and specialized administrative and technical facilities.
The President headed to the permanent operations center of the East Canal Command, through which the stages of the comprehensive confrontation plan for the operation (Sinai 2018) are managed. He listened to a detailed explanation from Lieutenant General Mohamed Farid, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, that included the procedures for planning and implementation the operation and the most prominent achievements over a period of 16 days to purify the Sinai from terrorist outposts, to impose full security control over Sinai Peninsula. This aims to prepare for bringing life back to normal in Sinai and for creating the appropriate climate for the comprehensive development of the people of Sinai.

  • Logistic and Health Services


Logistic services and facilities were provided to meet the needs for the people of Sinai. Mills and bakeries near the areas of operations were being followed up and their needs were being covered. Equipped cars were used to distribute food commodities and financial compensation, exceptional pensions and food supplies were offered by supplying more than 615 tons of meat, poultry, vegetables and other food commodities through the National Service Projects Authority. 71,120 food rations were disturbed in the areas where operations are held at a rate of 5,000 packages per day and they are being doubled. 9,600 gas cylinders and 13 tons of liquid oxygen were also distributed so as to provide hospitals with medical gas needs. More than 400 tons of flour, 450 tons of wheat, 35 thousand liters of benzene and 68 thousand liters of diesel for the vehicles of the government, service, police, and ambulance facilities. Medicines and vaccines were supplied to the Directorate of Health Affairs, and hospitals were provided with 72 doctors in various specialties in coordination with the Ministry of Health. Moreover, 50 oncology patients were sent to hospitals in Cairo for treatment and 1529 university students from Sinai are to be disturbed among Egyptian universities. The procedures of the Ministry of the Interior were taken to legalize the legal status of Sinai citizens, where the relevant agencies of the Ministry of Interior renewed and extracted 9826 national IDs, 8772 birth certificates, 140 death certificates, 1239 family documentation and licenses of vehicles and driving to serve the people of Sinai.
It was pointed out that the number of citizens in the North Sinai region is 444 thousand citizens over an area of 27, 564 km. It has 6 ration departments, 32 ration offices and 228 ration groceries, all of which have been provided with all the supply requirements to provide for those needs for citizens, in conjunction with the military operations. It was pointing out that North Sinai has 128 private sector bakeries distributed throughout North Sinai, 8 police bakeries, and 248 warehouses. The total quantities of flour spent amounted to 4816, indicating that the people in central Sinai prefer flour instead of getting bread. The total population of North Sinai who obtained ration cards is 321 thousand citizens; 72%.
