100,000 Greenhouses Project

-In June 2016, an comprehensive study of the national project for the establishment of 100 thousand greenhouses was completed. The project was then launched within the framework of the 1.5 million feddans project. This project will achieve many objectives, which will maximize the utilization of land and water units, create new job opportunities in the target reclamation areas and increase export rates of agricultural products to support the national economy.
- This project aims to maximize the economic returns by increasing the production of agricultural crops and shortcutting the area exploited for cultivation and saving water amounts used in agriculture, where protected crops consume from 60% to 70% of the amount of water consumed by traditional open crops. The project includes the establishment of units of agricultural and food processing as an added value of the crops, which contributes to reducing crop losses and providing better opportunities for export. Also, the project helps spread the concept of high-quality fresh products locally that are free of contaminants, in addition to providing cut flowers in local markets in quantities that allow for increased circulation.
- The national project of agricultural production is carried out in accordance with the international standards of high productivity, where the expertise of countries such as Hungary, Spain and the Netherlands are used in this field in cooperation with UNIDO. The Regional Director of the organization stressed its keenness to contribute its expertise in this area in helping farmers to increase productivity and planning for the establishment of complementary food industries, thus increasing the value added of the agricultural products since sustainable industrial development is one of the goals adopted by the leaders of the world and is related to the achievement of sustainable development.

-The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation announced that it is about to finalize the timetable set for the launch of nearly 1000 agricultural greenhouses.
-A joint protocol of cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Arab Organization for Industrialization has been signed in the field of training in the construction and operation of modern agricultural water-saving houses. According to this protocol, the Arab Organization for Industrialization will finance and manage the equipment necessary for the establishment, operation and management of the new agricultural greenhouses. The Ministry of Agriculture manages and operates the project in accordance with the agreed scientific and technical standards and specifications.
The President of the Arab Organization for Industrialization stated that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi assigned them to help the young people in the 1.5 million feddans project. The Organization has manufactured 514 agricultural greenhouses, 68 agricultural houses in the village of El-Amal, east of Ismailia, and 40 other agricultural houses for noncommissioned officers in El-Tall El-Kabeer. There is a study that is being conducted to establish 10,000 agricultural greenhouses in El-Farafra Oasis.
Regarding the size and the importance of this project, President El-Sisi said in his meeting with the editors of national newspapers in May 2017 that 600 greenhouses were created, the area of each is one third of a feddan, and we are working on the construction of a new area ranging from a feddan and 2.5 feddans. We finalized some of them and another part of them are allocated for local production consisting 100,000 greenhouses. One greenhouse produces 10 times more than the ordinary feddans; its production is to reach up to million feddans whose products are all organic and irrigated with very pure water.

The project aims at establishing integrated agricultural development communities in the new reclamation areas within the 1.5 million feddans project. It includes seven areas: West Minya, Western west Minya, El-Magharah, Sinai, El-Marashda1, El-Marashda2, Halaib and Shalatin:
- 20 thousand greenhouses in west Minya are built to cultivate tomatoes, pepper, cucumber, cantaloupe, eggplant, green onions, zucchini, red cabbage.
- 10 thousand greenhouses in the western west of Minya, and 10 thousand greenhouses in El-Magharah are built to cultivate tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, cantaloupe, peppers, melons, zucchini, and cut flowers.
- 20 thousand greenhouses will be constructed in Sinai to cultivate tomatoes, eggplants, cantaloupe, peppers, lettuce and cut flowers.
- 30 thousand greenhouses in El-Mashraheda 1 and El-Mardashda 2 are built to cultivate tomatoes, peppers, beans, cantaloupe and cucumbers.
- 10 thousand greenhouses in Halaib and Shalatin are built to grow tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, cantaloupe, pepper, zucchini, and cut flowers.

-The agricultural greenhouses project would reduce the unemployment rate as it contributes to providing 300 thousand job opportunities for young university graduates with various majors and graduates of the faculties of engineering and agriculture, in addition to providing employment opportunities for workers and farmers.
-The Ministry of Agriculture has announced the availability of 300 thousand job opportunities within the national project for agricultural production. This will be done through a competition and the winners will immediately be given their jobs in the project. The Egyptian universities have been notified by the Ministry of Agriculture to organize a competition for the recruitment of graduates of various Egyptian universities of young men and women to train them and then qualify them to start work in this big project.

- The Ministry of Agriculture represented by the Agricultural Research Center, conducted a comprehensive study of the national project to establish 100,000 greenhouses on an area of 100,000 feddans for the integrated production of agricultural crops of high-quality vegetables and fruits that are free from contaminants. The selection of geographical locations for the establishment of agricultural communities in terms of sources and quality of water, the designing of the greenhouses, the development of crop structures, the preparation of economic feasibility studies and marketing plans were completed.
