Arqeen International Port

Arqeen Port is the first trade point in Africa. It is part of the African International Axis (Alexandria - Cape Town). It is one of the main axes of trade with Africa. It connects the largest African conglomerate from the Mediterranean to the Pacific. The length of the axis is 10,000 km. It connects North Africa with South Africa by land and crosses the Nile Basin countries until it reaches Ethiopia, passing through about 15 African other countries. It contributes to the support of trade as well as movement of individuals.

Arqeen Port is the second land port after Qustal land port that is located east of the High Dam Lake on the international border lines between Egypt and the Sudan, which was opened on 30/8/2014. Since its opening, Qustal port has earned about LE 25 million from the transit and transport fees in 2015, in addition to the transfer of about 190 thousand passengers between the two countries and 24 thousand shipments. This confirms the success achieved by the port and its role in the movement of trade, while the port revenues from the movement of exports about is about 20 million dollars. Also, the port contributed to increase trade by 15%.

Arqeen port contributes to the development of joint relations and the increase in the trade exchange between Egypt and the Sudan, in particular, and in supporting the process of economic and trade integration between Egypt and African countries in general.

It also contributes to improving the level of complementary trade between the two countries so that Egypt would be the first destination for the Sudanese importers. Similarly, Sudan would be the destination of the Egyptian importers to obtain their goods that are not available locally. The port as well contributed to the opening of free markets that promote the movement of exports and imports of goods, livestock and agricultural crops, as well as increase in the travelers’ movement between Egypt and Sudan.

Arqeen port will also open doors to export Egyptian products to many African countries through the Sudan. The Sudan will also benefit from exporting goods to the outside world, within the framework of the COMESA and Arab Free Trade Agreement, thus supporting the intra-African trade.

Thus, Arqeen port will be the starting point for joint cooperation between Egypt, the Sudan and the rest of the African continent. This will be the longest connecting network between Africa and the rest of the world to activate the trade movement, increase trade exchange and create a new economic future between Egypt and African countries which gives Egypt strategic advantages to reach African markets.
