National Projects in Damietta

These projects are: Damietta Furniture City, one of the most important furniture cities in the Middle East that is considered one of the projects that the Egyptian state recently prioritized, the Civil Education Center in New Damietta, Dar Misr housing project, residential buildings in the village of Dakahla, the development of West Damietta power station, the multi-purpose station in the port, "Steigenberger" hotel and the expansion of the potable water and sanitation station in Ras El-Bar.

The film reviewed the industrial and agricultural opportunities, fisheries and promising investment opportunities in Damietta. This is in addition to the achievements represented in the establishment of a northern and southern bridge in Damietta. The video also presented Damietta Furniture City, which is one of the most important national projects to which the political leadership attach great importance in order to support this industry as it is the first craft of the people of Damietta Governorate.

National Projects in Damietta

Damietta Furniture City is one of the major national projects and one of the new city chains specialized in strategic industries. It is a starting point for small and medium enterprises and gate through which Damietta's furniture could reach the world, especially as it is the first and largest industrial area specialized in the furniture industry and complementary industries in the Middle East. Egypt's furniture, especially that of Damietta, is known for its  high quality and has a good global reputation, which opens the door for exporing Damietta's furniture at the local, regional and global levels. The city is considered to be the hub of furniture industry for it has become an industry depending on modern technology after it was only a craft. 

The ownership structure of Damietta City Furniture Company is as follows: the National Investment Bank 40%, the Damietta Governorate with a share of land that represents 40%, the General Authority for the Implementation of Industrial and Mining Projects of the Ministry of Industry 5%, and Ayady for Industrial Development Company, one of Ayadi Investment and Development companies 15%.

 

 

Project Goals:

The project aims to:

  • Add new production capacity to create productive goods and to transfer goods from the informal to the formal sector.
  • Reduce the volume of import and increase the rates of exports.
  • Provide 100,000 job opportunities.

 

 

Components of the Project:

  • It is considered as an integrated city that is specialized in the manufacture of furniture, and everything related to it from crafts, small and medium industries, and feeding and complementary industries, as it includes a commercial and marketing area and a technology center.
  • The city is established on an area of ​​331 feddans according to the Prime Minister’s Allocation Resolution No. 999 / 2015. It includes 54 hangars with a total of 1348 small and medium workshops with an area of ​​50 to 150 meters, and about 150 large and complementary factories. A furniture technology center in Damietta was also established  to prepare marketing studies for furniture manufacturers.
  • The company is negotiating with Egyptian and Arab companies to enter into a partnership to manage and implement the mall, led by the Saudi Al-Hokair Group.

 

Labor Force Training:

  • Training opportunities for workers to use the latest technological systems in the industry are available.
  • Damietta City Furniture is negotiating with Italian government agencies and the private sector to establish a school for designing furniture in Damietta City on an area of ​​5 thousand square meters.

 

Promoting the City Locally and Globally:

  • Damietta City Furniture Company had a contract with an Egyptian company to design a website to promote the city's products online and ship them internationally.
  • The company has hired professional photographers to take distinct photos of factories and workshops products, upload them to the website and ship them to any location in the world. The company aims to develop factories and workshops' products so as they would be of a good quality and price and to update the designs of the products to competitive globally.
  • The company has made an agreement with a local company to make a trademark for Damietta Furniture City. It is to be announced before the end of this year.
  • Permanent outlets for the city's products is being prepared in several governorates, most notably in Cairo, Alexandria, Delta, South Sinai and the Red Sea.

 

Offering Workshops for Contracting:

The number of workshops that were included in the contracts in the city reached about 500 workshops out of 1500 workshops, while 375 workshops actually started working. 1,200 specifications were sold during the previous four proposals, while the rest of the workshops that contracted with the company did not start production, as they are currently at the stage of completing the procedures with the contracting banks to finance the workshops.

A new multi-purpose plant was opened in Damietta Port that are implemented by a number of Egyptian national companies. It was opened via video conference (1:33:19 to 1:49:56). It includes berths with a length of 630 meters and a depth of 17 meters and it has backyards of an area of 50 thousand square meters. It is expected that its capacity will take up to 4 million tons annually.

The project is equipped with all necessary facilities to serve ships and goods, starting from fire system working with salt water, and rain drainage system to yards, places for feeding ships with fresh water and electricity. There are also places dedicated to receive sewage and shops' oil waste.

The station also aims to reduce the waiting time of ships outside the port and increase the amount of cargo, the types and sizes of vessels and the storage space inside the port.

Residential buildings in "Kafr Saad" city

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi inaugurated the social housing project in Kafr Saad, with 36 residential buildings. Each consists of four floors, with a total of 576 shops and 432 housing units. 

 

Residential buildings in "Dakahla" village

The social housing project was opened in Dakahla village with 8 residential buildings. Each building consists of five floors, with a total of 64 housing units and 32 commercial stores. The streets between the buildings were paved with concrete slabs.

Shata Transformer Station

An infrastructure has been created to serve the Damietta City Furniture project and that infrastructure contributes to serving the project. This is in addition to serving the areas and villages next to the Furniture City. For this end, a transformer station has been established with the aim of feeding the city and Shata region with electric power. It has a capacity of 2 x 75 MVA.  A control building of the station was also established.

 

West Damietta 2 Power Plant

The President gave the starting signal for the West Damietta 2 power plant project, which will be built on an area of ​​85 feddans. It includes two phases. The two phases are being implemented with air-cooled condenser technology to generate electrical energy.

The project aims to convert the West Damietta gas station to work with the combined cycle system, within the five-year plan projects 2012-2017 which aim to support the electrical network to meet the growing loads and to achieve development in all areas. The project operates in the combined cycle which increases the capacity of the electricity project by 50%. The project supports the electrical network, raises its efficiency and provides electricity to all state institutions and citizens.

The President inaugurated the sewage plant expansion project in Ras El-Bar, which operates at a capacity of 50 to 75,000 cubic meters per day. The project aims to serve the residents of Ras El-Bar city, Al-Sunaniya village and East Damietta Port.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi gave the starting signal for the opening of the Civil Education Center in New Damietta, which is affiliated to the Central Administration of Parliament and Civil Education at the Ministry of Youth and Sports. It aims to be eligible to receive conferences, seminars and training courses for youth. It includes 48 rooms on an area of ​​5775 square meters and there is a grass field as well.

The center includes 48 rooms for accommodation, and can take up to 120 persons. The center contains 4 rooms for workshops with an average of 30 people, as well as training rooms, a computer center, a restaurant and halls to receive delegations. There is also a large conference hall that can take up to 200 individuals and the center receives groups to make camps, conferences, seminars and training programs for youth. The Civil Education Center is expanding to receive Egyptian youth from all over the governorates.
