Saturday, 03 September 2022 / 03:09 PM

Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, Admiral Osama Rabie.

The Spokesman for the Presidency said the meeting followed-up on the Suez Canal Authority’s projects and activities. The President was briefed on the navigation movement in the Suez Canal during 2021/2022.

The Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, SCA, confirmed that the digging of the New Suez Canal as well as the ongoing upgrading and development of the canal have boosted its efficiency as a key global trade route and strengthened the state’s national economy. He noted that the canal has achieved unprecedented record numbers and rates in its history, recording an annual revenue of 7 billion dollars, the highest transit rate, and the highest net tonnage of 1.32 billion tones. This is in addition to its success to receive a new generation of mega container ships with huge capacity and tonnage.

Admiral Rabie reviewed the development of the Suez Canal's navigational course in the southern sector, as part of regular efforts to increase the efficiency of its infrastructure. This aims to increase and boost the navigation movement and global trade transiting the canal.

The Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority reviewed the Suez Canal’s strategy to revive the movement of yacht tourism and upgrade its ports. This is in addition to catering for the needed logistics services to enhance Egypt’s abilities to become a yacht crossing reception corridor, given its distinguished location on the Red and Mediterranean Seas. These services include in particular electricity and water fueling, quick maintenance, yacht reception centers and storage services.

The meeting also witnessed the SCA’s efforts to localize the ships and fishing boats' industry. President El-Sisi gave directives to increase efforts to build local fishing vessels for fishermen in recently-upgraded Egyptian lakes such as Lake Manzala and other lakes, substituting primitive wooden boats that are currently used. The new boats shall be provided with the state-of-the-art machines and refrigerants to store fish, supporting fishermen and increasing their ability to double the production of fishing.
