President El-Sisi Receives Phone Call from Sri Lankan President

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call today from President of the Republic of Sri Lanka Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that both presidents discussed ways to promote bilateral cooperation relations between the two countries.

The Sri Lankan President expressed his country's pride in the distinguished relations it has with Egypt. He stressed the importance Sri Lanka attaches to strengthening bilateral relations with Egypt in all fields and in various international forums. This is prompted by the pioneering role that Egypt plays at the regional and international levels and its valuable role in the field of combating terrorism and achieving security, stability and peace in the Middle East.

For his part, President El-Sisi affirmed that Egypt welcomes efforts to intensify cooperation with Sri Lanka in various international forums, especially in light of the historic bilateral relations. His Excellency also stressed Egypt's keenness to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries, especially at the economic level and in joint investments, in light of the development and economic efforts Egypt undertakes and the mega national projects underway.

During the call, efforts to exchange experiences between the two sides in various fields were discussed, including combating COVID-19, and to address anti-terrorism file as it is one of the most important challenges facing the two countries. Hence, Egypt’s efforts to combat terrorism internally and regionally and to counter extremist thoughts and ideologies were praised. In this respect, the pioneering role of Al-Azhar, the beacon of the Islamic world and the representative of the true teachings of Islam, was further commended.
