President El-Sisi Receives Phone Call from UN Secretary-General

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi today received a phone call from the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that the call discussed the latest developments in the Palestinian territories in light of the recent escalation.

The UN Secretary-General António Guterres affirmed his keenness to keep in touch with the President in light of the pivotal and historical role of Egypt towards the Palestinian cause as well as its effective relations with all parties. This is in addition to Egypt’s efforts aimed at maintaining security and stability in the region.

The UN Secretary-General stressed, in this regard, the United Nations’ keenness to support the current Egyptian efforts to reach a cease-fire agreement between the Palestinian and Israeli sides in order to avoid further negative repercussions that may cast a shadow over the region’s stability in general.

In this respect, Guterres expressed the international community’s great appreciation for the $ 500 million pledged by Egypt as part of the President’s recent initiative for reconstruction efforts in the Palestinian territories, with the participation of Egyptian specialized companies.

For his part, President El-Sisi stressed the seriousness of the negative repercussions of the recent developments on regional security and their impact on the exacerbation of the humanitarian and living situation inside the Gaza Strip.

The President affirmed that Egypt is currently doing its utmost to stop the escalation through intensifying contact with all concerned parties.

In addition, Egypt will support all international efforts aiming to end the current state of tension, restore stability, and limit human and material losses.

President El-Sisi asserted Egypt’s firm position on the need to reach a just and comprehensive solution leading to the establishment of a Palestinian state on the basis of international legitimacy resolutions specific to Palestine.

During the call, President El-Sisi and the UN Secretary-General agreed on the importance of intensifying the United nations’, regional and international efforts to urge Israel to stop the current escalation with the Palestinian factions in the West Bank and Gaza Strip in order to reach a cease fire and allow for the restoration of calm within Gaza Strip.

They also agreed on the efficacy of an international collective action in an effort to relaunch negotiations between the two sides in order to achieve the desired peace in accordance with international references.
