President El-Sisi Heads to Athens

This morning, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi travels to the Greek capital, Athens, to participate in the 9th round of the Egypt- Greece-Cyprus summit, within the framework of tripartite cooperation mechanism that was launched in 2014.

The Spokesman for the Presidency stated that the Athens Summit aims to build up on what has been realized in the past eight summits, evaluate progress made in various fields of cooperation and follow up on projects being implemented within the cooperation mechanism framework. This seeks to enhance the distinguished relations among the three countries, as well as support and strengthen political consultation among them on means to counter challenges that the Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean regions face.  

The President is expected to meet with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to discuss means to enhance bilateral relations across all levels. This comes within the close ties that Egypt and Greece share and their keenness to boost cooperation and continue consultations on issues of mutual interest. 

The President will also meet with the Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades to discuss the outstanding relations between both countries, which saw significant growth in the past few years. The meeting will also discuss means to enhance economic and trade relations between the two countries, as well as discuss various regional issues.
