Monday, 07 June 2021 / 06:51 PM

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met today with Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and President of the National Council for Women Dr. Maya Morsy.
The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that Dr. Maya Morsy presented Egypt's efforts to host the eighth session of the Ministerial Conference on the Role of Women in the Development in the OIC (the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation). It is to be hosted in the New Administrative Capital from the 5th to the 8th of July, during which Egypt will assume its presidency for the next two years.
The President stressed the importance of organizing this conference properly and in a well-coordinated manner. Hosting this conference consolidates Egypt’s role in the field of women empowerment and culminates its efforts in issuing national legislation supporting gender equality and women empowerment in the State, especially in the Council of Ministers and Parliament. The latest of these legislations is that approving women’s appointment in the State Council and the Public Prosecution Office.
Dr. Maya Morsy also presented the steps taken by Egypt to host the headquarters of the Organization for Women Development, the first OIC-affiliated organization to be hosted by Egypt.
This organization aims to enhance and improve the status of women, taking into account the pioneering Egyptian role in establishing the organization. In addition, Egypt had been encouraging the rest of the OIC member states to join the Organization for Women Development until it entered into force in July 2020.
The President of the National Council for Women also clarified that the Organization for Women Development aims to promote the role of women through a set of programs for social, economic, and political empowerment.
Of the organization’s goals are combating violence against women, correcting the religious discourse, combating extremism, and highlighting the Islamic values and principles concerning the rights of Muslim women around the world.
As per the President’s directives, Egypt shall bear the share of the annual contributions to the least developed member states in the Organization for Women Development. This accounts for 22 countries, including those that have ratified the statute, have already joined the organization, or have not ratified the statute yet but are in the process of joining it.
His Excellency also gave directives to allocate an integrated independent building for the organization’s headquarters and to provide it with all the necessary services.
The President also called for establishing a research center inside of the organization and paying attention to its ties with the relevant international organizations, especially within the framework of the United Nations in order to help formulate joint cooperation programs.
