Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker.

The Spokesman for the Presidency stated that the meeting reviewed the ministry’s strategic projects, which are implemented nationwide.

The Minister of Electricity offered an overview of the status of the electrical supply for the giant agricultural project, New Delta, which covers a total area of 2.2 million acres. The President emphasized the importance of taking into consideration the establishment of the project’s electrical infrastructure so as to accommodate the future increase in electrical loads as a result of the growing development rates in the region and the diverse industrial activities related to the projects. This aims to achieve the maximum added value of these projects, run them soundly and ensure the quality of production and its availability in the market, in addition to the provision of irrigation water.
The meeting also reviewed efforts to complete the infrastructure work to secure the current and future electricity supply to the North Coast, in a way that supports the infrastructure necessary for the electrical interconnection project with Libya.
The Minister of Electricity also reviewed developments pertinent to the electrical interconnection projects among Egypt, Cyprus and Greece; the tripartite electrical interconnection project with Iraq and Jordan; and interconnection with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with the aim of achieving mutual economic benefit throughout the year according to the electricity needs of each side, in integration with a scheme to bolster the electrical infrastructure of the Sinai Peninsula.
The Spokesman added that the Minister of Electricity also reviewed the national projects in the electricity production sector from new and renewable energy, especially those based on wind and solar energy. This includes plans for the production of electrical energy from concentrating solar power plants that depend on the thermal storage of solar energy throughout the day. This is considered an alternative to traditional fuel and is part of the state’s approach to encourage local and international investments in green infrastructure. This also supports Egypt’s strategy for integrated and sustainable energy, which aims to reach 20% by 2022 and 42% by 2035 with regard to the renewable energy component of Egypt’s electric energy mix.

The Minister of Electricity also reviewed the latest developments in the cooperation with international expertise in the field of green hydrogen energy generation using renewable energy, in accordance with the national strategy in this regard.

The minister also presented the outcome of the 23rd session of the Africa Energy Forum, held recently in London, in which he took part. The session reviewed Egypt’s leading experience that transformed from a deficit in electric power to abundance. This is while raising the efficiency of the national grid and delivering the future needs and requirements for energy, in light of the mega national projects in various development fields across the country, particularly the Decent Life Initiative. The British side lauded the Egyptian investment climate and the inspiring experience in this regard that could be transferred to other African countries.
