President El-Sisi Meets with Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met today with Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Mohamed Ayman Ashour.
The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that the meeting discussed the strategic vision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The President directed that the strategy should aim to enhance the role of universities so that they would help achieve the state’s objectives and national goals, especially with regard to development. This is to be achieved by promoting the study of modern sciences in the fields of artificial intelligence, data and software, and digital financial inclusion. In this regard, His Excellency directed that the work of the National Authority for Civil and Technological Universities be developed to help establish new and distinguished educational institutions in cooperation with the private sector and reputable foreign institutions.
Dr. Ashour presented the status of the priority projects of the Ministry of Higher Education in preparation for the new academic year 2022/2023, especially with regard to the new technological and non-profit national universities across various governorates.
Dr. Ashour also presented the Ministry's future vision for the development of higher education and scientific research. The vision is based on formulating modern educational programs relying on several axes, the most important of which are interdisciplinary studies, international reference, leadership and creativity. These programs are mainly based on studying the regional features of each university to focus on development activities in various geographical regions across the Republic of Egypt. They aim to study the impact of the economic situation and job opportunities of each region, to examine the current and future demographic distributions of students and their impact on educational institutions, and to explore the academic programs required to serve economic activities.
The Spokesman added that the Minister of Higher Education also presented the efforts made to support distinguished state-owned universities in the field of applied scientific research in several areas, such as artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing, environmentally friendly materials, optimal use of energy, and smart agriculture.
The President was also briefed on the status of the headquarters being established for Egyptian envoys and scholars “Beit Misr” in Paris. It is expected to be completed next year. He was also briefed on the latest preparations made for Egypt to host the Francophonie Week by the end of October. This event will be attended by the ministers of higher education of many French-speaking countries. Moreover, during the event, the future plan for the development of francophone higher education in Egypt in cooperation with the Francophone Organization will be presented.
