President El-Sisi Meets with PM and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met today with Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that the meeting discussed efforts aimed to resume the second semester in universities. Developments in the national projects carried out by the Ministry of Higher Education nationwide, especially public and technological universities, and research centers and institutes, were also presented.

In this context, President El-Sisi was reassured that the second semester of universities would be resumed and that the examinations are held as planned in various universities nationwide. His Excellency called for taking all precautionary measures to preserve the health and safety of students.

Dr. Abdel Ghaffar also presented current and future projects in public universities, a total of 425 projects at a cost of about EGP 35 billion, distributed over 27 public universities across Egypt. In these universities, educational, service, productive and medical projects are being carried out.

President El-Sisi also followed up on the status of the digital transformation and mechanization system in public universities. His Excellency gave directives for accelerating the implementation of the information infrastructure to convert public universities into smart universities. The President also called for improving educational and research services in all curricula in those universities and developing inter-programs according to the future needs of the labor market.

The system of work in university hospitals nationwide was also discussed. Developments related to the mechanization of the hospitals’ services within the framework of the national project concerning the information infrastructure of public universities were presented. The President gave directives for providing capabilities and the equipment necessary to ensure the readiness of university hospitals to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.

The Spokesman added that the Minister of Higher Education also presented during the meeting the executive plan of research centers and institutes projects, 79 projects at a cost of about EGP 3 billion. Moreover, the implementation status of new technological universities in 6th of October City, Burj Al Arab, east Port Said, Samanoud, New Assiut and New Taiba, Luxor was discussed.

The meeting also discussed the State’s efforts to enhance the skills and develop competency within an academic and institutional framwork with the aim of preparing generations of qualified graduates to meet the needs of the local, regional and international labor market.

The President was also briefed on the study on the establishment of the Egyptian Genome Center, an Egyptian genome reference used to detect the genetic characteristics of diseases. With that, an era of personalized medicine, gene therapy, and future genome-based drugs will begin.
