President El-Sisi Meets the Secretary-General of Organization of Islamic Cooperation

Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received Secretary-General of Organization of Islamic Cooperation, OIC, Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency said President El-Sisi welcomed the OIC Secretary-General in Cairo. The President underscored Egypt’s full support for Mr. Taha in his mission, taking into consideration the magnitude of the challenges facing the Islamic world across various levels, which necessitates enhancing coordination and engagement under the umbrella of the OIC to serve the issues of the Islamic nation.

The OIC Secretary-General confirmed that he was honored to meet with President El-Sisi, adding that he briefed him on the OIC’s programs and work progress in the coming period. Mr. Taha underlined his keenness on meeting with the President at the beginning of his tenure as OIC Secretary-General to listen to his vision and assessment regarding all issues in the Islamic world. This is in addition to ways to further advance and promote joint Islamic action among the organization’s member states so as to contribute to protecting joint interests, pushing forward development in these countries, and fulfilling their peoples’ aspirations for progress and prosperity.

The Secretary-General of the OIC expressed his profound appreciation for Egypt’s efforts to strengthen solidarity among Islamic countries and support the organization’s role. He asserted that he looks forward to the continuation of Egypt’s vigorous and historic role, given its importance and centrality, and Egypt’s regional and international leverage as one of the organization’s founding members.

The meeting discussed the latest developments in regional crises. Mr. Taha lauded Egypt’s efforts which aim to reach political settlements for crises in the region, in light of the growing turmoil and challenges in the Middle East and the African continent. Those primarily include the growing threat of terrorism, which seeks to cause the destruction of states and dismantle their institutions.

President El-Sisi looked forward to enhancing the organization’s work by benefiting from and capitalizing on Egypt’s ancient Islamic institutions, which enjoy credibility at the regional and international levels. This will present the Islamic world to the international community in accordance with the principles of the true teachings of religion, thus contributing to refuting the negative ideas and stereotypes disseminated by terrorist and extremist organizations and entities.
