President El-Sisi Meets with Palestinian President

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received today at Al-Ittihadiya Palace Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Sameh Shoukry and the Head of the General Intelligence. From the Palestinian side, Head of the General Authority of Civil Affairs of the Palestinian Authority Mr. Hussein Al-Sheikh, Head of the Intelligence Service Major General Majed Faraj, and the Palestinian Ambassador to Cairo, Mr. Diab Al-Louh were also present.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that the meeting discussed the latest developments in the Palestinian cause and the peace process in the Middle East.

President El-Sisi affirmed that the Palestinian cause will always be a priority for Egypt. His Excellency stressed Egypt’s unwavering position towards the cause and full support for the Palestinian positions and choices towards reaching a political settlement. He also stressed that Egypt is making further efforts to help the Palestinian people restore their legitimate rights according to the legal international references. He asserted that the current stage requires solidarity and intensified Arab efforts in order to resume the peace process negotiations.

The Palestinian President stressed the importance he attaches to consultation and coordination with President El-Sisi regarding the overall Palestinian situation and the determinants of the Palestinian position in light of the developments in the cause as well as the recent new changes on the regional and international arenas. He expressed his appreciation for Egypt's efforts and its historical and steady stances in support of the Palestinian cause as well as its actions at various levels to preserve the rights of the Palestinian people and to achieve the Palestinian national unity.

The Spokesman added that the two presidents agreed to continue intensive consultations and coordination in order to follow up on the steps that would be taken during the coming period to resolve the current situation by returning to negotiations.

The meeting also discussed the Egyptian efforts to stabilize the Gaza Strip. President El-Sisi clarified that the Egyptian moves are always aimed at preserving the security and stability of the Palestinian people and improving the humanitarian, living and economic conditions in Gaza and that Egypt is continuing its efforts to complete the reconciliation process and achieve political consensus within the framework of a common vision between all Palestinian forces and factions, thus achieving unity and the interests of the brotherly Palestinian people.
