Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with the Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, Mr. Aguila Saleh, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar. The meeting was attended by the Director of General Intelligence, Mr. Abbas Kamel.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated the meeting discussed the latest developments in Libya, in light of the special relations Egypt has with Libya and its people. The meeting also addressed Egypt’s unwavering policy that considers the stability of Libya at the political and security levels integral to Egypt’s stability.

President El-Sisi welcomed the Libyan leaders and valued their enduring keenness to carry out the will of the Libyan people and to preserve their national interests in order to restore security and stability in Libya, as well as to safeguard Libya’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The President also confirmed Egypt’s continuous efforts to coordinate with all Libyan brothers in the upcoming period. This will contribute to ensuring the unity and cohesion of all Libyan national institutions, thus holding the parliamentary and presidential elections expected to take place by the end of the year. This is in addition to banning foreign intervention that seeks to execute agendas at the expense of the Libyan people and getting all foreign forces and mercenaries out of the Libyan territories.

The Libyan officials expressed their great appreciation for Egypt’s leading role and its diligent and sincere efforts in supporting its brothers in Libya since the outbreak of the crisis until now. This comes within the framework of the longstanding and brotherly relations binding both countries and peoples.

They also expressed their deep appreciation for the President and the Egyptian people for standing by their Libyan brothers while managing the current transitional phase and supporting them as they bear this historic responsibility, especially by contributing to unifying the Libyan National Army.

They further demonstrated their appreciation for the vital role played in transferring Egypt’s development experience to Libya and benefiting from the experience and capabilities of the Egyptian companies in this regard.

The Libyan leaders affirmed the alignment of their positions with Egypt’s approach regarding the management of the current transitional phase in Libya, especially when it comes to holding the parliamentary and presidential elections before the end of the year. This is concurrent with enhancing the security path by obligating all foreign parties to get all the mercenaries out of the Libyan territories in order for the Libyan security institutions to undertake their responsibilities and duties. This shall contribute to enhancing efforts to regain security and stability across Libya.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency also added the meeting discussed prospects for cooperation and coordination between the two countries across all levels.
