President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi arrived this morning in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, to participate in the tripartite summit between Egypt, Iraq, and Jordan with the Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi and His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. This summit comes within the framework of the 4th round of the tripartite cooperation mechanism launched in Cairo in March 2019.

Arriving at Baghdad International Airport (BGW), President El-Sisi was received by the Iraqi President Barham Salih.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that President El-Sisi’s historic visit to Baghdad, the first official visit of an Egyptian President to Iraq in 30 years, comes as a reflection of the strength of the long-standing, historical relations between the Egyptian and the Iraqi government and people. This visit confirms Egypt’s keenness to support and develop these relations and open up broader horizons to fulfill the same destiny we share and respond to the common interests of the two brotherly countries.

The President’s participation in the Baghdad summit for tripartite cooperation builds on what has been achieved during the previous three summits, comes as an evaluation of the development made in various fields of cooperation, and follows up on progress of the various projects underway.

This participation comes within the framework of supporting and deepening the distinguished historical relations between the three brotherly countries and strengthening political consultation between them in order to address the challenges facing the Arab World and the Middle East region.

During his official visit, the President is scheduled to meet his brother the Iraqi Prime Minister to discuss brotherly relations between the two countries, which have witnessed a quantum leap over the past few years. They also explored ways to enhance economic and trade relations between the two brotherly countries and held consultation on regional issues.

The President will also hold a meeting with his brother, the King of Jordan, to consult on ways to strengthen bilateral relations at all levels. This meeting comes within the framework of the close and fraternal ties between Egypt and Jordan as well as the two brotherly countries' keenness to strengthen cooperation and continue intensive consultation on issues of common interest.
