President El-Sisi Updated on the New Building Rules and Regulations across Egypt

President El-Sisi held a meeting today with Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Assistant to the President for National and Strategic Projects, Eng. Sherif Ismail, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Dr. Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Eng. Tarek El-Molla, Minister of International Cooperation Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Local Development Mr. Mahmoud Shaarawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Dr. Assem El-Gazzar, Governor of South Sinai Major General Khaled Fouda, Governor of North Sinai Major General Mohamed Shousha, Presidential Advisor for Urban Planning Major General Amir Sayed Ahmed, Director of the National Authority for the Development of the Sinai Peninsula Mr. Mohamed Shawky, Deputy Head of the Engineering Authority of Sinai Development Projects Staff Major General Ahmed Ismail and Head of the Licensing Unit in the Engineering Authority Major General Ihab Ebeid.

As stated by the Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency, the meeting followed up on the new building rules and regulations across the nation, as well as the current status of implementation of the Bedouin communities being established in Sinai.

The President also looked over the efforts exerted in drafting the new integrated system for planning and building rules and regulation, followed by regulatory and executive procedures to issue building permits. In this respect, President El-Sisi was also updated on the work done to govern the construction system in Egypt within a clear context categorized by planning and organization according to the law and engineering codes.

Hence, President El-Sisi directed that this system be a start for a new era of controlled urban expansion based on scientific measures to reorganize the construction process and put an end to the current slum housing conditions. The President stressed the importance of the contribution of all competent executive authorities to get the system implemented on the ground.

As to the state’s strategy for the comprehensive development of Sinai, the President was updated on the current situation with regard to establishing complete Bedouin communities in North and South Sinai, including the total number of communities and their areas, suggested demographic distribution, construction costs and financing resources, and providing irrigation water as well as various production activities. The outcomes of the relevant community discussion held with the families and citizens in North and South Sinai were presented to determine their requirements and needs; developmental activities that suit every community based on their geographic distribution and the competitive edge each holds, were focused on.

In addition, His Excellency pointed out the importance of instantly starting the implementation of the Bedouin communities to support the families of the Sinai Peninsula at all aspects through offering the best societal services, providing the necessary infrastructure, water resources, and fully-serviced administrative buildings, hiring a responsible administrative structure in every community, and drafting the production system for every Bedouin community based on the conducted surveys to understand the real needs of the current population within the state’s strategy for the comprehensive development of Sinai.

In connection with the comprehensive plan to develop Sinai, the President reviewed the progress of work regarding the water supply to developmental communities in Mid and North Sinai, cultivating around 500,000 feddans by transferring water from Bahr El-Baqar drain to the to-be-cultivated lands. His Excellency also followed on the executive steps taken by all concerned parties, issuing directives to ensure having fully-fledged and serviced communities that include administrative entities for government service agencies which would facilitate dealing with citizens.
