Monday, 14 June 2021 / 07:20 PM

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met today with Director General of the National Service Projects Organization (NSPO) of the Armed Forces Major General Walid Abul-Magd, in the presence of Chairman of “Piel Color” group for leather industry Mr. Hicham Gazar and Chairman of “Show Room” company for trade Mr. Sayed Farag.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that the meeting discussed the national project for the establishment of a landmark and pioneering company in leather tanning in the Middle East and Africa. This company is the first of its kind in these regions in terms of using a mega-sized and advanced industrial technology, recycling tannery effluent, and converting it into organic fertilizers and environmentally-friendly products, in partnership with the Italian expertise.

The President ordered the immediate start of the establishment of the factory in accordance with the highest technological standards in the world and the provision of all the needed modern machines and industrial technologies, whether for tanning leather or recycling its waste for the manufacture of fertilizers. With that, Egypt would be the only country in the region to have state-of-the-art technological capacity and to manufacture local leather products.

The President was also updated on all the components of the mega project and the relevant feasibility studies; this project would be integrated with other industrial areas in the field of leather nationwide. Hence, the project would contribute to the safe disposal of leather industry waste by recycling it in line with international standards in achieving the health and environmental requirements of the new industrial zones as well as the economic returns by making maximum use of these wastes.

In the same vein, efforts to develop the leather industry in Egypt, such as shoes and others, were showcased in conjunction with the leather tanning factory project, with the aim of encouraging localization of this industry in Egypt. The President directed that this proposal would contribute to placing Egypt on the global map of the leather industry, especially in light of the competitive advantages of this sector, thus making it become a center for the leather industry and products manufacture in the region.
