President El-Sisi Inaugurates Some Projects to Develop Eastern Cairo

Today, President El-Sisi inaugurated several development projects in eastern Cairo, Baron Empain Palace after restoration, and the Sphinx and Capital International Airports via video conference, coinciding with Egypt's celebrations of June 30 Revolution.
The celebration was attended by the Speaker of the House of Representatives Ali Abdel Aal and Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly as well as some ministers and senior statesmen.

The event has started with the recitation of Quranic verses by the wise reciter Sheikh Ayman Aql, followed by a documentary film entitled “A Civilizational Transition”. The film reviewed the most important historic places, including the Baron Empain Palace, which has served as an eyewitness to the origin and development of Heliopolis, one of Cairo’s most beautiful neighborhoods.
The documentary highlighted the significance of developing Heliopolis for it is a vital artery linking Cairo with the Ring Road, Ain Sokhna Road, Suez and Ismailia. The documentary also pointed up the importance of Heliopolis as one of the access paths to the New Administrative Capital (NAC). It showcased that this area was developed in order to meet the urban demands and ease traffic flow.

The video reviewed the new bridges and axes built in Heliopolis, comprising 10 roads at a length of 15 km, alongside five bridges spanning over 3 km.
In the second stage, the documentary showed five roads that were developed over a length of 8 km, alongside five bridges with a total length of 2 km. Additionally, five roads are constructed at a total length of 13 km in Nasr City; three other bridges are built at a total length of 3 km.
As for the Roxy-Ramses axis, 6 roads at a total length of 10 km were developed to link Downtown to eastern Cairo. The development processes continued in Ibrahim El-Orabi Axis, which extends from the Suez Bridge area towards Belbeis City. 8 new intersections have been made at a total length of 13 km along with 8 bridges at a total length of 2 km.

As to Cairo-Suez Road, developments also continued in two phases. On the first phase, the road linking Abu Ghazala Bridge with the 8 km-long Ring Road was completed; two bridges were established in front of the Gardenia area. On the second phase, a 38-km long road was completed for linking the Ring Road with the Regional Ring Road. Furthermore, six bridges are constructed in El-Rehab and El-Shorouk cities; footbridges and intersections were also developed and constructed in Heliopolis.

The documentary emphasized the historic importance of the Heliopolis neighborhood. It also referred to the renovation of the long-neglected Baron Empain Palace under the supervision of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority.
The establishment of the Capital International Airport on an area of 4 square kilometers as well as the completion of developments for Sphinx International Airport on an area of 1,035 feddans were also mentioned.

Moreover, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly stated that the value of the implemented national projects over the past six years has exceeded EGP 4.5 trillion. These projects, which are carried out in all sectors and social and economic fields, together with the economic reform program mark the country’s unprecedented development and growth rates.

Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Dr. Mohamed Abdel Aty also affirmed that Egypt depends on the Nile for 97% of its resources, with a population concentrated in 5% only of this area and the rest is desert.

Abdel Aty stated that Egypt foresees problems to be prepared for them ahead of looming. He has noted that Egypt is the only country in Africa that always reuses highly-saline water.

He also pointed out that there is a water gap in Egypt, almost 20 billion cubic meters. He pointed out that Egypt ranks second globally in the use of treated water.

The Minister of Agriculture, Mr. El-Quseir, stressed that Egypt has witnessed an unprecedented development in all agricultural activities during the past 6 years. The total number of implemented projects during the past 6 years amount to 281 projects, exceeding 26 billion pounds, he noted.

The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Dr. Khaled Al-Anani, confirmed that the Grand Egyptian Museum is the largest project underway and the biggest global event to be inaugurated in 2021. He added, “90% of the project is finished and $ 700 million of spending has been cut without compromising quality.”

The Minister of Civil Aviation Pilot Mohamed Manar Enabah reviewed what has been implemented at Sphinx and Capital International Airports, which were set up in accordance with the latest global systems and standards.

Subsequently, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi inaugurated the Capital International Airport via videoconference, and it was opened by Pilot Mohamed El-Gammal, Manager of the Capital International Airport, and Captain Hani Al-Muhammadi, Project Supervisor.

Staff Major General Ehab Al-Far, Head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority, congratulated the Egyptian people on the occasion of the seventh anniversary of the glorious June 30 Revolution. All Egyptians stood together on this revolution armed with their strong will in the face of the forces of terrorism and extremism. He also noted that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi commissioned all state agencies to implement more than 20,000 development projects in various fields at a cost exceeding 4.5 trillion pounds.
